FACTS ABOUT BULLER • He was an Ornithologist • I chose him because he studied our native birds and told the world about them. • I chose him because I LIKE BIRDS!
WHAT DID HE DO??? • He was the first native-born New Zealander to make a name for himself in the international world of science. • He wrote a book called ‘A history of the birds of New Zealand’. This is now known as ‘Bullers Birds’.
FACTS ABOUT BULLER • He was born on October the 9th 1838 in Hokianga, New Zealand. • He died 105 years ago on July the 19th 1906 in England • He married Charlotte and had four children.
FACTS ABOUT BULLER • He went to Wesley college same as Jonah Lomu and Paul Brown. • He could speak Maori and he was a judge for the Maori land court. • He started writing for a competition and people thought he was very good.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE… • He still took specimens (killed birds) even when they were endangered.
