  1. LLI Leveled Literacy Intervention

  2. What is LLI? LLI is a researched based reading program designed for students who need intensive support to reach grade level. It is a series of lessons and books, written on all levels from kindergarten through third grade.

  3. Who needs LLI? Students that are below grade level in reading. Students not doing well on classroom assessments and the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessments. Students that are basic or below basic on the 4Sight Assessment.

  4. When and Where to use LLI? Students will be pulled from the classroom to work in small groups with the reading specialist. The reading specialist will pull students for a 30 minute lesson, 5 days a week. ( That’s the ideal set-up.) Parents will continue the LLI program at home for approximately 15 – 20 minutes a night.

  5. Why LLI? To ensure that students can read at their expected grade level. To ensure that students are able to quickly return to the classroom and to not become a “forever” struggling reader.

  6. What does LLI Look Like? Lessons in Grades K- 2 consist of the following components: Rereading Word Work New Book Writing ( Every other day) Assessment or Reading Record is taken every other day on one student. No more than 3 students to a group.

  7. Design of Grade 3 Lessons In Grade 3- 45 minute Lesson ( Ideal) Discussion of yesterday’s text Revisiting Yesterday’s New Book Phonics/ Word Study Reading a New Book Every other day- Rereading and Assessment with one student Every other day- Writing About Reading No more than 4 students in a group.

  8. Homework Component The homework is vital to the success of students in the program. Consists of Rereading a familiar book and completion of Fold Sheets that go with the program books. Students who struggle in reading must practice reading many more times than those who don’t struggle. It’s not enough that they read in school with their classroom teachers and their reading teachers. Each LLI teacher has her own system for keeping track of homework.
