  1. Problems • A teacher wants to set up future lessons before meeting a student. • A teacher wants to save logs of previous lessons per each student. iPadApplication for Reading Recovery Hyunjeong Yoo http://www.ceti.cse.ohio-state.edu/ Introduction Scenarios Root view Creating Students View (1) Creates a new Student Project Purpose Loading Student lists View Loading Lessons View • Build an iPad application. • Students should learn the alphabet and the association between a form and a name of the letter. • A teacher can set up a lesson before meeting the student. Figure 3: Use Case Diagram • Two types of users: • Teachers • Students who are in the kindergarten or who need to learn the alphabet • Students have a function to learn the letters from the lesson previously set up by a teacher. • Teacher functions include monitoring a student’s progress in both learning the alphabet and learning the association between a form and a name of the letter. • Teacher functions also include managing the lessons. • Teacher functions also have the role of an administrator to createand delete student profiles. (2) Selects a student and creates a new lesson Figure 1: Students using letter blocks Creating New Lesson View Selecting Lesson View (3) Selects a lesson Software Analysis and Design Current Systems • At this time, instructors use letterblocks to teach letters to young children. For doing this, students need to wait while the instructor sets up the lesson for each student. This process is not as efficient as it could be. • The current process lacks the ability to track students' progress, which could greatly assist in managing lesson plans. (4) Assigns finding all ‘g’ and collects them Figure 2: View Flow Diagram • Show the flow of views that a teacher and a student are supposed to perform in this app. • A teacher goes from the left view, “Root view,” to the other views – except for the green view, “Learning the letters” – for setting up the lessonfor the student. • A student learns letters by using the green view, “Learning the letters.” (5) Checks the student’s work Learning Letters View Collecting all ‘g’ Figure 4: Captured screens following the scenario below • A teacher creates student lists. • (2) A teacher selects a student from student lists and sets up the lesson before meeting the student. • (3) In the meeting, the teacher selects a lesson for the student. • (4) The teacher assigns finding certain letter, ‘g’, and the student drags all ‘g’ into a white box. • (5) When the student finishes sorting the letters, the teacher checks the result of the student’s works. If his work is correct, then ‘g’ letters will disappear, due to a teacher using a clear button, for the student to proceed to the next letter. Checking the work by a teacher Acknowledgements • A special thanks to Dr. Emily Rodgers, for her insightful help, and Dr. Rajiv Ramnath, for initiating this project.
