  6. ; Weekly Newsletters Page 6 NEWS CORNER www.starindiaresearch.com 1.Business historians and management gurus will for a long time study and hold up Jet Airways’ sudden descent into near bankruptcy as a lesson in how not to run a business. From a market leader, the once-proud airline is fighting to stave off bankruptcy and is struggling to make normal interest payments. The airline has failed to pay salaries and its planes are being impounded by lessors , leaving it with perilously little capacity to cater to burgeoning passenger demand. It may not even have enough. 2.Jet AirwaysNSE 3.43 % is of course a different case and its account is not yet a non- performing asset. It has been able to regularise its default in December though it announced recently that the payment on a foreign currency borrowing has been delayed which could make it vulnerable to a bankruptcy filing. 3.While benchmark equity indices are hovering around record high levels, as many as 52 stocks are showing signs of imminent weakness. Momentum indicator moving average convergence divergence, or MACD has signalled downward crossovers – a sign of bearish undertone –on these counters, hinting at possible downsides in the days ahead. Many of these stocks have also been witnessing strong trading volumes of late, lending further credence to the emerging trend. Stocks on the list include Tata Motors, Sterlite Technologies, Reliance Naval, Jaiprakash Power Ventures, Praj Industries, Bajaj Hindusthan, Delta Corp and Bata India. Also on the list are Jindal Stainless, Gayatri Projects, Apollo HospitalsNSE -1.32 %, Take Solutions and Aavas Financiers. 4.Sensex may be near record high, but this rally has new leaders in the forefront While BSE Sensex is barely 600 points (or 1.6 per cent) away from its all-time high of 38,989 hit last August, only five index stocks –ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and InfosysNSE 0.56 % – are reflecting this bullishness. 5.Construction engineering company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) acquired the 20.32 percent stake of local coffee baron VG Siddhartha and firms related to him in Mindtree. It has also made an open offer for an additional 31 percent stake in the midcap IT services company, which is being categorized as a 'hostile takeover'. 6.An acquisition can either be amicable or hostile. When one company sells its shares to the interested party willfully, it is a friendly acquisition. However, if the target company is resistant and the buyer approaches the shareholders of the company directly by making an open offer, it is termed as a hostile takeover.
