What is DC? • DC or direct current is the unidirectional flow of electric charge • It is used to charge batteries, and in nearly all electronic systems as the power supply • Also used for some railway propulsion, especially in urban areas • High voltage direct current is used to transmit large amounts of power from remote areas to connect to power grids

  3. How Does it Work? • http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/edison/sfeature/acdc.html • Basically electrons flow in one direction through a battery at a consistent voltage

  4. AC v. DC • DC is more expensive than AC because the flow of electrons in DC is one way versus an alternating current • AC can transport large quantities of electricity using transporters while with DC this isn’t possible

  5. Uses • Small appliances like battery-powered electronics • DC is low voltage

  6. Parts Batteries are connected to wires which feed electrons one way to the lights
