Basic Principles & Elements Principles: • Balance – both the physical balance of materials and visual appearance of balance • Emphasis – XXX • Harmony – the components create a pleasing product • Proportion – comparative size of elements in an arrangement • Rhythm - visual flow created by lines, form, texture, color, space • Unity - relationship of the elements to one another Elements • Color – most important, affects people’s moods • Form – 3D shape of arrangement • Line – visual pathway for the eye to follow • Space – area between/around arrangement materials • Texture – characteristics of the surface area of flowers, foliage, containers, and accessories

  14. Conclusion Designers must also know the design shapes to efficiently serve a diverse customer base. Designers must be able to incorporate the principles and elements of design in their work. By doing so, they are creating effective designs that are pleasing to the consumer.
