  1. What is the N.I.E.T.? • In short, it is the evaluation system that is replacing PDAS. • To improve student achievement through enhanced teacher capacity within the classroom.

  2. Growth model • NIET is a coaching model. • Designed on the premise that all teachers desire to be as effective as they can be with their students. • The feedback loop (observation and conference) along with self-reflection are viewed as the primary tools for professional growth. • A process of reflection or self-discovery

  3. Who is part of the N.I.E.T.? • Core Teachers: Teachers who teach in English, Math, Science, or Social Studies. • Master Teachers: Teachers who provide professional development to teachers, facilitate the leadership team meetings, and supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers. • Administrators: Serve as the team leader, makes all final decisions, supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers.

  4. Norms and Expectations • Be punctual and prepared • Support each other by actively listening and staying engaged • Stay on topic according to what is planned. • Bring positive attitudes and be ready to share • Feel free to ask questions (in the meeting, via e-mail, or drop by the office). • Attend all NIET meetings, including makeup meetings for any approved absences with appropriate notification.

  5. School Goal(This is the BIG Goal) • By the end of the 2013-2014 school year, 75% of students will pass the writing portion of the state assessment. (Up from only a 52% passing rate from 2012-2013). • All courses will support meeting the school goal by incorporating writing opportunities into daily lessons.

  6. Annual NIET Meeting Goal(These are the more individualized goals) • By June 2014, all core teachers will be At Expectations (3) according to the NIET evaluation standards. • All students will have achieved at least one year of academic growth in all core subjects.

  7. Phase 1 Goal(This is very specific and will change a few time throughout the year) • Teachers will demonstrate proficiency with the 4 domains of the NIET Evaluation Rubric.

  8. Evaluation process • Pre-conference • A discussion about the upcoming lesson/class that will be observed • An opportunity to “set the stage” for what the observer(s) will see • Just a conversation • Classroom observation • The entire class period • Observer(s) will be taking notes • May walk around, but will not interfere • Post-conference • An opportunity to reflect on the lesson observed • A conversation about how you think the lesson went • Discuss an area of Reinforcement and Refinement
