  1. Fähigkeit Unterrichten: Anweisendes Design im Wisconsin Technischen Hochschulsystem

  2. Guten Morgen. Willkommen zu Wisconsin im Namen des Wisconsin Technischen Hochschul System. Ich heise Judy Neill und I bin die Direktoress von WIDS. Die Fähigkeit (en)

  3. Sixteen 2-year colleges offering education and training that provide skills needed to compete in today’s workforce. Accredited by the NCA Higher Learning Commission

  4. The colleges offer more than 300 programs: • Two-year associate degrees. • One- and two-year technical diplomas. • Short term technical certificates (nine months or less). • Customized training and technical assistance (direct to business and industry) .

  5. WIDS - Developed and continually improved in partnership with WTCS: • Leaders in Instructional Design:  Software Tools, Outsourcing, Consulting, and Professional Development • Champions for learning-centered design that results in high performance • Partners who work to help educators and trainers meet workforce education needs WIDS is a division of the Wisconsin Technical College System Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation .

  6. Meet performance expectations for tomorrow’s workers Design learning that produces performance results Build core values Ensure that learners transfer what they've learned through training education to application on the job Workforce training providers are challenged to:

  7. Workforce training providers are challenged to: • Offer education and training that work: • in the classroom • online • on-the-job • in the learning lab • in the field • etc.

  8. Tough challenges and demanding solutions call for talented leaders and effective processes, along with powerful tools: WIDS Learning Design System

  9. WIDS is a Learning Design System • A consistent design model and process for course and program design • Software for developing, documenting, and managing curriculum • Design expertise, professional development, and facilitation

  10. An approach to teaching and learning which requires advance description of knowledge, skills, and attitudes learners must achieve on exit from a course or program. WIDS: Founded on the Principles of Performance-Based Learning

  11. Competencies are identified, verified, and made public in advance of instruction Performance is required Performance standards are explicitly stated and made public in advance of assessment Learning activities and teaching strategies provide opportunities for learners to develop the competencies Essential Features of Performance-Based Learning

  12. WTCS WIDS model helps educators answer the following questions: Learners Identify learning needs. Who? Exit Outcomes Competencies Teach the right thing. What? Assess what you intended to teach. Assessment When? Teach what you intend to measure. Learning Activities How?

  13. WIDS Aligned Curriculum Learning Strategies Assessment Learning Outcomes Learner Design Out Educators Begin with the end in mind as they design learning. WHAT WHEN HOW

  14. WIDS Aligned Curriculum Learning Strategies Assessment Students “See” the learning activities first. Learning Outcomes Learn In Learner Design Out Educators Begin with the end in mind as they design learning. WHAT WHEN HOW

  15. If we want students to “begin with the end in mind,” we need to inform them about the target outcomes up front! Students Learn In

  16. The Process • Identify learners’ goals and performance needs • Determine intended results • Connect teaching and learning to the intended results • Implement targeted performance assessment • Assess and continually improve

  17. DACUM Mission External Standards Exit learning Outcomes Define high performance. Establish WHAT learners will learn. 18. The WIDS process helps organizations lay the groundwork for all four levels of evaluation: • Does it help the bottom line? • Are they using it on the job? • Can they do it? • Did they like it? Reference: Donald Kirkpatrick

  19. Consistent language and process Established quality standards Guidance for teachers who are not skilled in instructional design Uniform documentation of learning outcomes (program & course level) Benefits of consistent design model

  20. The Power of WIDS Software • Results in consistent and replicable model, process, quality, and format. • Leads users through each step of the instructional design process yet offers flexibility. • Offers a number of libraries and banks of reusable curricular elements saving time and building in consistency. • Produces top quality learning plans, teaching plans, assessments, and syllabi.

  21. WIDS software features four unique modules to support the design of teaching, learning, and assessment.

  22. Use only the modules that relate to your project Follow color and icon coded flowcharts as you work

  23. WIDS helps you design performance into programs or other sequenced learning experiences. Document how your program design addresses external and internal standards. Use WIDS Libraries and Banks to insert standards to ensure consistency, and you never have to key them twice.

  24. WIDS DACUM Module helps you verify or make occupational standards more specific. Document occupational analysis (DACUM).

  25. Quickly generate occupational analysis Charts WIDS DACUM Module helps you verify or make occupational standards more specific.

  26. Build occupational analysis verification surveys with the click of a button. WIDS DACUM Module helps you verify or make occupational standards more specific.

  27. WIDS helps you incorporate occupational performance expectations into the design of workshops or courses.

  28. WIDS Learning Plans Connect Standards to Learning and Assessment. Linked standards Performance Standards Learning Activities Assessment Activity

  29. WIDS Assessment Tasks Connect Standards to Performance. Linked standards Directions Scenarios Rating Scale Scoring Guide

  30. Documents where standards and other outcomes are addressed WIDS Analyzer Builds Outcome Matrices Outcomes Courses

  31. WTCS CurriculumBank • Provides a hosted electronic curriculum repository that is secure and backed by redundancy. • Serves as a content management and dissemination tool that offers easy access for sharing curriculum throughout the organization. • Promotes a culture that encourages faculty and staff to collaboratively “adopt, adapt, revise, develop” curriculum – in that order.

  32. Available Online Available Online WIDS professional development builds internal expertise and capacity. • Helps facilitators build or enhance their skills in: • teaching • learning • instructional design

  33. WIDS partners set their sights on learning . . . Colleges Government Agencies Secondary Schools Business and Industry . . . because they care about learning and performance first.

  34. WIDS partners include these learning organizations and more:

Some of our International Clients • The LR Group, Cape Town, South Africa • Public Authority for Adult Education and Training, Kuwait • Niagara College, Canada • Government College of Engineering, India • Dubai Aerospace University • Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Canada WIDS Trainers – PAAET Kuwait

  36. Developers and providers of iWebfolioelectronic portfolio system andTracDatassessment management system. Value-Added Partnerships WIDS works in partnership with the following providers of high quality products that work with the WIDS model and outputs from the WIDS Software. Wisc-Online, a digital library that contains 2266 objects that may be used with permission by colleges, universities, and consortia from throughout the United States and around the world.
