  1. “The Way I See It” Campaign • “Thought-provoking” messages printed on cups • Pertaining culture, politics, philosophy, religion, etc. • Intended to stimulate thought or promote conversation • Some have been “controversial”

  2. “The Way I See It” Campaign Heaven is totally overrated…it seems boring. Clouds, listening to people play the harp, etc. It should be a somewhere you can’t wait to go, like a luxury hotel. Message # 230

  3. “The Way I See It” Campaign Maybe blue skies & soft music were enough to keep people in line in the 17th century, but Heaven is going to have to step it up a bit. They’re basically getting by because they only have to be better than Hell. - Joel Stein (L.A. Times writer) Message # 230

  4. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven

  5. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Sad Human “Perversions” • This pitiful example from Starbucks Coffee may not be totally “isolated” (warped comments from an obvious unbeliever) • Other views from “professed” believers indicate different opinions about heaven that are equally as “cheap” and “perverted”

  6. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Sad Human “Perversions” • Other views from “professed” believers… • TheIslamistÙ he “anticipates” those 72 virgins if he martyrs himself…kills infidels • TheMormonÙ he “anticipates” a time when polygamy is re-instated…he will once again be able to enjoy multiple wives

  7. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Sad Human “Perversions” • Other views from “professed” believers… • TheJehovah’sWitnessÙ he “anticipates” only 144,000 in Heaven, but is content to live in paradise on the “new earth” • TheDenominationalistÙ he “anticipates a Heaven full of “earth-like” joys

  8. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Sad Human “Perversions” • These viewpoints illustrate a major problem… a lack of spiritual thinking & training • Today = a prime example (Super Bowl Sunday) • It may even be a problem among ourselves • Some of us appear “bored” in worship • Some don’t sing, open a Bible…some sleep • Such “disinterest” results in attendance problems

  9. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Glorious Biblical “Realities” • Heaven is a place of value • Because God is there Rev 22:4-5 • Because Christ is there Jn 14:3 Heb 9:24 • Because nothing Satanic will be there Rev 21:4, 8, 27

  10. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Glorious Biblical “Realities” • Heaven is a place of preparationMt 25:34 Jn 14:2 • Sometimes one might even find the right place by accident • Not so with Heaven...Christ prepared it for a people who prepare to live there Mt 7:13-14

  12. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Glorious Biblical “Realities” • Heaven is a place forservingGodRev 7:15 • If one struggles with worshiping & serving God on earth, how will he “anticipate” Heaven? • How can the thought of eternally serving God appeal to such a person? • What about present-day worship & service to God? Heb 10:25 1 Jn 5:3 cp. Gen 29:16-20

  13. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Glorious Biblical “Realities” • One shouldn’t “anticipate” Heaven just to escape the tortures of Hell • One should be motivated to go to Heaven to serve Him who sent His Son to die for us • If this isn’t enough “motivation,” nothing else can be given

  14. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Conclusion • “Anticipation” = looking forward to something with great eagerness or interest • We “anticipate” a great meal when we smell the aroma of it cooking • We long for that first savory bite

  15. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Conclusion • What is your view of Heaven that causes you to “anticipate” it? • Why do you live the way you do? • To prove God’s way is best Rom 12:1-2 • To go to Heaven Mt 5:17-20 (the best motivation of all)

  16. ABOVE THE BRIGHT BLUE Anticipating Heaven Conclusion • Do you long for…“anticipate” that blissful place “Above The Bright Blue?” • Do you understand what you will be doing once you get there?
