  2. Basic Exam Information • Time Limit: 2 hours • 80 questions • Multiple Choice • No Calculators or Electronic Devices • Closed book. No textbooks or notes • Similar to midterm • Bubble sheets • HB pencils • Erasers • Pencil Sharpener Craig Schock, 2003

  3. Time and Location • Date: December 16, 2003 • Time: 12:00 – 14:00 • Location: Red Gym • Know where the Red Gym is before the date of the exam! Craig Schock, 2003

What if you become ill during the exam? • The university has many regulations regarding exams: • You must choose to finish the exam or leave • If you choose to finish, there can be no deferrals • If you choose to leave, you MUST go immediately to a doctor so that the doctor can assess your condition. • You must obtain documentation about your condition from the doctor • If you do not immediately go to a doctor or you do not receive documentation from the doctor, you will not be permitted to apply for a deferral Craig Schock, 2003

U of C Exam Regulations • Students cannot leave the gym within 30 minutes of the start of the exam • Students cannot leave the gym in the last 15 minutes: • If you finish in the last 15 minutes, you must stay seated until the instructor picks up all of the exams • There will be an announcement when there is 15 minutes left in the exam • You must have U of C ID and it must be on your desk at all times during the exam. • You must sign (not initial) the sign-in sheet Craig Schock, 2003

  6. Final Exam Breakdown • I have analyzed the exam and the questions break down as follows: • Chapter 1: 2.5% • Chapter 2: 17% • Chapter 3: 19% • Chapter 4: 7% • Chapters 5, 6, & 8: 18% • Chapter 7: 5% • Chapters 9, 10, 11, & 12: 23% • Chapter 13: 8.5% Craig Schock, 2003

  7. Chapter 1 – History • Minimal coverage • Remember, it’s a lot easier to understand where you are going if you know where you’ve been • Just because this chapter is not emphasized in the exam doesn’t mean that it isn’t important! Craig Schock, 2003

  8. Chapter 2 – Hardware Basics: Inside the Computer • High coverage • Some questions taken from the midterm • Be careful! They may have been changed • Don’t forget the online notes on Computer Architecture, Binary Numbers and Binary arithmetic Craig Schock, 2003

  9. Chapter 3 – Hardware Basics: Peripherals • High coverage • Some questions taken from the midterm • Be careful! They may have been changed • Don’t forget online notes on Secondary Storage Devices Craig Schock, 2003

  10. Chapter 4 – Software Basics: Includes O/Ses • Low-medium coverage • This chapter was not included on the midterm. • All new questions Craig Schock, 2003

  15. Tips and Strategies • Read the exam fully. I have proofread the exam but there is always the possibility of a mistake. • eg. Pages out of order, miss-numbered questions, etc. • If in doubt, ask. • Read the question FULLY! • Double check your bubble sheet to ensure that it contains your real answers. • Bring more than one pencil, a sharpener, and an eraser!
