  11. The children will be learning about the geography of the UK before exploring renewable energy.We will learn about different sources of power and natural resources and how these are changing to make a more sustainable future.

  13. The children will be learning about the Ancient Greeks and the concept of democracy.We then move onto looking at the change in power over time from absolute to constitutional power.

  15. The children will be learning about evolution and adaptation. They will consider how different animals are adapted to their environment and the features they have needed for survival.

  20. Restorative Justice We use restorative approaches to support the children to resolve any conflict with friends The key questions are: What happened? What were you thinking/feeling when it happened? What do you think/feel now? Who has been affected/upset by what has happened? In what way? What needs to happen now to make things right?

  22. Home Learning/Extended Learning A review of all Extended Learning is currently underway. We are keen to make sure that EL policy focuses on what is best for ALL involved. Parent questionnaire will be given out soon.

Extended Learning • Reading • School – read at least weekly in guided reading sessions. • Home expectation is to read at least 5 times a week, at least some sessions with an adult. • Ask questions about the book • Read a variety of different genres • Record what they have read with a short comment in the reading diary • Diaries should be signed by parents weekly. Children expected to change their reading book as required. • Prizes can be won for regular reading by collecting raffle tickets • Watch out for holiday reading challenges (Summer deadline soon)

  24. Extended Learning • Spellings • School – A range of activities to learn new spelling rules. Spelling is a focus across all year groups. • Home – Weekly spellings will be linked to a spelling rule, topic vocabulary or key, high frequency words for some pupils. • Strategies to help learning: • Flash cards • Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check • Rainbow writing • Mnemonics

  25. Extended Learning Maths Children need to know their multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12. This is an essential skill that makes a huge difference to the speed and accuracy of calculations. Times tables can be reinforced through Times Tables Rock Stars. All children have a log in and will be reminded of these in the next few days. There will be a maths based task on each topic homelearningto choose. Pupils who know their multiplication tables can investigate associated facts such as 17x Home can also help with other everyday maths such as telling the time, months of the year and measures.

Extended Learning • Topic • Each half term there will be a choice of longer extended pieces of work linked to the termly topic. • Each half term 1 piece will be completed • A deadline will be given of 2 to 3 weeks per piece of learning • Pupils will be given choices in how their learning is presented • This should be student lead. • Opportunity to share with others in the class and/or phase. • Topic Extended Learning will be given out by the end of week with the first deadline being Monday 14th October.

  27. Adult Help We welcome adults to come and help in school with a wide range of activities including: • PTA – see flyer and Facebook page • Trips • Reading – sign up on the volunteer sheet. You will need to be DBS checked and undergo training as appropriate.
