    12. Commission, 1st Time Isaiah was called as a Prophet long before the Temple vision in Isaiah 6. (See chapters 1-5 and 6.1) Isaiah 6.8-13 is a commission to a difficult task, during a crisis period in Judah's history.

    13. Commission, 1st Time A Voice: "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Isaiah: "Yes, Send Me!"

    14. Commission, 1st Time A Voice: Go, tell this people . . . 'Keep listening, but do not comprehend. Keep seeing, but do not understand.' 'Make fat the will/mind of this people, its ears – make heavy, its eyes smeared shut lest its eyes see, with its ears – hear, with its mind/will understand and turn and heal itself.'

    15. Commission, 1st Time Isaiah: "How long, O Lord?" Voice: "Until cities are crushed to ruins without inhabitants and houses are without people and the land is utterly desolate . . . ."

    16. Play it again, Isaiah - Commission Isaiah 40 depicts a new commissioning of the Prophet Isaiah. God: "Comfort, comfort my people" "Speak kindly to Jerusalem" "Declare to her that her compulsory labor is fulfilled, for her iniquity has been satisfied, for she has received from the hand of Yahweh, double for all her sins."

    17. Play it again, Isaiah - Commission A Voice is calling out in the wilderness: "Clear the way of Yahweh, make straight in the desert-plain a highway for our God." "Let every valley be lifted up and every mountain and hill be low. . . ." "Then the Kabod of Yahweh will be revealed and all flesh together will see that the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

    18. A Voice: "Call out" Isaiah: "What shall I say?" Voice: "All flesh is grass and its hesed is like the flower of the field." Voice: "The grass withers, flowers fade, when the breath of Yahweh blows on it. Surely the people are grass." Voice: ". . . but the word of our God stands forever." Play it again, Isaiah - Commission

    19. Commission – George Flattery

    20. Vision, 1st Time The book of Isaiah is introduced with the statement "The vision of Isaiah . . . which he saw . . . ." (1.1) So also 2.1 "The word that Isaiah . . . visioned concerning Judah and Jerusalem."

    21. "I saw the Lord enthroned on a throne" "rising and being lifted up" "His hem filled the Temple" Vision, 1st Time

    23. Vision, 1st Time Seraphs were stationed above him. Each of them had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his legs, and with two he would fly. "Holy, Holy, Holy is Yahweh Sabaoth! The whole earth is filled with his Kabod.

    24. Vision, 1st Time "The doorposts would shake at the voices of those calling out and the house was filled with smoke." Isaiah: "Woe is me! I am silenced: for I am a man of unclean lips and I live in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for the King, Yahweh Sabaoth, my eyes have seen.

    25. Vision, 1st Time "One of the seraphs flew to me with a coal in his hand that he had taken from the altar with tongs." He touched my mouth and said, "This touched your lips and your iniquity will be purged."

    26. Play it again, Isaiah - Vision The book of Isaiah concludes on a visionary note that out-strips even the majesty of the vision of chapter 6. So Yahweh said: "The heavens are my throne and the earth is my footstool"

    27. Play it again, Isaiah - Vision "Where is a house which you could build for me? Where is a place that I may reside?" "All this was made by my hand, all this came into being," declares Yahweh. But this is the one to whom I will look: to the humble and broken spirit, who trembles concerning my word.

    28. Postscript Nota bene: The phrase "play it again, Sam," is not found in the movie Casablanca. Like many "urban legends," it is just not true. Ilsa says, "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake" While Rick says to Sam later on, "You played it for her and you can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can! Play it! The song was "As Time Goes By"
