All You Need To Know About The Iconic Stadiums In India The 13th edition of the World Cup tournament kickstarted on 5th October, 2023 and the world witnessed a replay of the 2019 World Cup finals. The inaugural match was held between England and New Zealand, the 2019 finalists at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. In fact, all 48 matches will be hosted by India across multiple stadiums. Similar to the previous edition, 10 teams will lock horns to claim the title for cricket's mega event; champions of ICC Men's World Cup 2023 tournament! The trophy-lifting match will be held on 17th November, 2023, and will also be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The participating teams for this year's edition, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England, will travel all across India to play all 48 exciting matches. From Ahmedabad to Chennai to Mumbai to Dharamshala, get ready to witness cricketing history being created in these picturesque and eminent stadium venues in India. All You Need To Know About The 10 World Cup 2023 Stadium Venues A lot of cricketing legends have walked, played, won, and even lost matches in these prestigious stadiums in India. Let's know a little more about them. Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad Established in 2003, Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is the home ground for Hyderabad's cricket teams, both men's & women's, and is located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It also serves as the home ground for Hyderabad's IPL team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and has a capacity for 55,000 people to attend and watch the matches.

  2. Previously, from 2008 to 2012, it was the home ground for Deccan Chargers. Owned by the HCA (Hyderabad Cricket Association), the 20-year-old stadium has hosted multiple matches including the IPL finals in 2017 and 2019. Out of 48, 3 World Cup matches were scheduled to be held at this stadium, which was named in memory of India's former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. In fact, only the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium will host 3 matches, while the rest of the stadiums will host 5 matches each! During the 2019 IPL edition, the Hyderabad Cricket Association was recognized for having the best ground and pitch. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore The Chinnaswamy Stadium is situated in Bangalore and is the home ground for Karnataka's men's & women's cricket teams, along with their IPL team, Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 5-decade-old stadium first opened its doors in 1969 and holds a compact seating capacity for 40, 000 people. Situated in the heart of Bangalore, it is regarded as having one of the world's smallest international cricket grounds. The stadium is regulated by KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association), owned by the Government of Karnataka, and regularly hosts all formats of cricket matches. Did you know that it was formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium? For the 2023 World Cup edition, it will host 5 matches! M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai M. A. Chidambaram Stadium or Muthiah Annamalai Chidambaram Stadium, is the 2nd oldest cricket stadium in India and is located in Chennai. Established in 1916, this monumental stadium is named after the former BCCI president, M. A. Chidambaram Chettiar. Also known as the Chepauk Stadium, currently it is the home ground for Tamil Nadu cricket teams, both men's and women's, and also IPL's Chennai Super Kings.

  3. Formerly known as the Madras Cricket Club Ground, the stadium holds a capacity of 50,000 spectators. This stadium has witnessed multiple records created over the years, some of them are- Sunil Gavaskar scoring his 30th Test Match century in 1983 and therefore breaking Don Bradman's record, Rahul Dravid smashing 10,000 Test Match runs, Joe Root scoring 218 runs off 337 balls, making it the highest score by an English cricketer in India, among a few! Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium Formally known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi's Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium will host 5 of the 48 World Cup 2023 matches. It was renamed to honour the memory of the late Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley in 2019, who was responsible for upgrading the iconic stadium into a modern version, completed with modern facilities, increased sitting capacity, and better facilities for the players. It's owned and operated by DDCA (Delhi & District Cricket Association) was established in 1883 and is the home ground for IPL's Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) and also both men's and women's Delhi cricket teams. It's the second oldest international cricket stadium in India, with the first match being played in 1948- a Test Match between India and West Indies. HPCA Stadium, Himachal Pradesh HPCA Stadium or the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium is all set to host 5 World Cup matches for the 2023 edition. It's also the home ground for Himachal Pradesh's cricket teams, men's & women's, and the headquarters Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. It was established in 2003 and this scenic stadium can contain 23,000 people at a time.

The home ground of IPL's Punjab Kings aka Kings 11 Punjab is in Mohali, at the popular Bindra Stadium but we have witnessed the team playing at this iconic venue on more occasions than one and is situated among the snow-capped Himalayan snow-capped mountains. Despite being a prominent cricketing ground, only 1 Test Match has been played here, in 2017. BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium or Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium is the 5th largest international cricket stadium in India. Named after India's 10th Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the stadium was earlier known as Ekana Cricket Stadium and is all set to host 5 matches of the ongoing tournament. It boasts a seating capacity for an audience of 50,000 people and is the home ground for Uttar Pradesh's men's cricket team, UP women's cricket team, and their IPL team, Lucknow Super Giants. It's known for its distinctive straight boundaries, which is the longest when compared to the rest of the stadiums in India. As compared to the other iconic stadiums which are riddled with so much history and prestige, the Ekana Stadium first opened its doors just 6 years ago in 2017. Not just matches featuring Men in Blue, it also acted as the host for the 2019 Afghanistan vs West Indies series and hosted the first Test Match in 2019! Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium is an international cricket stadium, situated in Pune. Operated by the MCA (Maharashtra Cricket Association), this premium stadium is located near the Mumbai-Pune expressway, around Pune's outskirts. It was established in 2012 and before it was constructed, Pune's Nehru Stadium was the prime location and the home ground for both men's and women's Maharashtra Cricket teams. It has served as home venue for IPL's Pune Warriors from 2012 to 2013 and the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016-2017.

  5. The stadium can house about 38,000 people and hosted its first-ever international match in 2012. It also has adjacent ground with nets for practice sessions and hosts other smaller-scale matches. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai The iconic Wankhede Stadium needs no introduction as it has hosted a string of significant matches over the years. Most notably it was the ICC World Cup final in 2011, where Men in Blue beat the Sri Lankan team to claim their 2nd prestigious title and also became the first country to win the World Cup title on home soil! Operated by the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association), it also houses the headquarters of IPL (Indian Premier League) and BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). The stadium where Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar played his last international match, is situated in the Churchgate neighbourhood. Hindu Gymkhana, Cricket Club of India, and Parsi Gymkhana are some of the old & popular cricket clubs near the stadium. From 1974 to 2010, the stadium could hold up to 39000 attendees but following the renovations in 2011, about 32,000 people can enjoy the match from the stands. The popular 2016 Bollywood cricket movie, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story starring Sushant Singh Rajput was also filmed inside the arena. Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad Currently the most popular and talked about stadium venues of them all, the iconic Narendra Modi stadium will host 5 important World Cup matches this season, which includes the inaugural and the concluding World Cup matches. The mighty stadium boasts a sitting capacity of 1,32,000 cricket enthusiasts and is owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association. It was built on the same plot of land where the Sardar Patel Stadium stood from 1982-2015, which hosted the following matches of the 1987, 1996, and 2011 ICC World Cup editions-- until it was demolished to make it the largest stadium in the world.

  6. The stadium opened its doors on 24th February 2020 during the "Namaste Trump" tour and the newly built stadium was named after the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Exactly a year later on 24th February 2021, the stadium hosted its first day-night Test Match, between India and England.
