Depression Symptoms in children vary • Some basic symptoms are: • Sadness • Hopelessness • Mood changes • Anger or irritability • Social withdrawal • Changes in eating and sleeping habits • Low energy and fatigue • Difficulty in concentrating • Difficulty in functioning daily activities • Physical complaints like headaches, stomach pains etc. • Thoughts of suicide

  3. Causes of Depression in children Just like the adults, depression in children can also be caused by the combination of any of these factors like life events, environment, family history, genetic vulnerability, physical heath and biochemical disturbance.
