  1. What is Gynecomastia? Gynecomastia is condition in men when the brests swells and becomes abnormally large. It can affect men of all ages, newborns, sometimes during puberty and adults. It is caused by the extra breast tissue rather than fat. There is another condition called Pseudogynecomastia, caused possibly due to a person being overweight or having obesity. What cause Gynecomastia? Various factors can cause gynecomastia. An imbalance of the sex hormones testosterone and oestrogen can cause gynecomastia. Both male and female have both the hormones. Estrogen dominates in femal and testosterone in male. Estrogen causes breast tissue to expand, whereas testosterone prevents oestrogen from doing so. Newbornes and young buoys may develop gynecomastia due to the fluctuations in these hormones level. It generally resolves on its own, though. Swollen breasts can reoccur in men as they get older. Older men have lower testosterone levels and more body fat than younger men, which can increase oestrogen levels. Some herbal products and medicationlike, antibiotics, anabolic steroids, chemotherapy, ulcer medicationsetc.. can also lead to gynecomastia. What Are The Treatments? Gynecomastia is not generally a serious problem. Gynecomastia usually resolves on its own after 6 months to 2–3 years. However, if an underlying condition exists, it may necessitate treatment. Gynecomastia surgery could be an option in acute cases. For that, Specialists Cosmetic Centre, best gynecomastia surgery in Kerala is worth noting.
