Quantum Computers By Robert Green
What is a Quantum Computer? • A device that uses Quantum Physics • Uses the Power of Atoms and Molecules to perform tasks such as Memory • Is able to do millions of operations simultaneously
Why are Quantum computer Superior? • Uses Qubits (Quantum Bits) • Which can represent 0,1, both 0and 1 or any number in-between • Operations done Simultaneously • A 4 Qubit System can do 16 Operations a second • A 10 Qubit System can do 1024 Operations a second • A 20 Qubit System can do 1,048,576 Operations a second
Quantum Power • Quantum Computers power derived from electrons • It uses an electrons spin position to represent data • Intermediate positions of electrons allows the data to be read • The data about the spin position is referred to as a Qubit • When multiple Qubits are combined it gives exceptional increase in there ability to represent data Spin Position
Quantum Theory • Quantum Computers still heavily theory based • 13 different Interpretations about how quantum computer s work • Highest recognized theory is Parallel Universes • David Deutsch a physicist at Oxford University was quoted saying “This is the first thing we have ever invented that exploits parallel universes”
Current Research • Leader in building Quantum Computers is Dwave • Dwave first to "develop" a 16 Qubit system • 16 Qubit system would be "1000 times to small to solve problems that stump ordinary computers" • Dwave announced a 128 Qubit system on December 19th 2008
End Note • Health Science will have a huge boost, due to being able to do extremely detailed simulations of biological molecules • Quantum Computer will revolutionize Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. • They could even lead to unforeseeable technologies and help us get a better understanding of the limits and possibilities of computation
