What should be included? • INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION • Philosophy statement for each subject area • Instructional goal for each course
What should be included? • SCOPE AND SEQUENCES should include: • Specific skills and/or content areas to be taught • Grade level or individual course at which the skill/content is introduced • The grade level or individual course at which the skill/content is expected to be mastered • The continued teaching expectations (develop, reteach)for grade levels or courses between introductory and mastery levels
What should be included? • Course Outlines – Written for every subject; provide clear direction about the following: • Instructional objectives: Written as student behaviors • Bible truths:What from the Bible will be integrated into each unit? • Time frame for teaching each unit • Instructional methods/activities used to achieve the objectives
What should be included? • Course Outlines (continued) • Materials and resources used in the presentation of each unit • Evaluation and assessment techniques utilized to assess achievement for the objectives Please use the UC Course description template sent to you!
Content Standards • Content standards for each subject should form the basis of your scope and sequence. • They do not necessarily need to based on those adopted by the state, but the California Department of Education content standards can function as a great resource for the development of our courses. (The good news: Quality work has already been done for us if we use this resource)
Content Standards • Your scope focuses on the span of all the content standards a student will encounter within a discipline (Math, English, Science, etc) • The sequence attempts to explain the order in which these content standards are introduced, developed, re-taught, and mastered.
