National Hero—Zheng Cheng-Gong His father named him Zheng-Sen. The emperor of Ming Dynasty named him Zhu Cheng-Gong. “Zhu” was the last name of the emperor. That’s a great honor. In 1661, Zheng’s troops defeated the Netherlander who occupied Taiwan. Zheng developed Taiwan actively that people in Taiwan adored him. 1624－1662
The legend of Zheng (1) When Zheng led troops went north and passed through Mt. Tie-Zhen in Da-Jia Town, his soldiers thirsted for water. Zheng prayed to God for water and then chopped a hole on the ground with his sword. The water kept gushing out of the hole and became a well. That’s the origin of Jian-Jing.
The legend of Zheng (2) When Zheng led troops to pass through Mt. Tie-Zhen, the sky became dark, a strong wind blew and came a terrible squawk. It was a big bird monster. Zheng cannonaded its beak and it became a statue.
The legend of Zheng (3) When Zheng’s troops began to go across the river, a carp monster emerged from the bottom of the river. Zheng threw his sword into the river to kill the monster. Since then, when it was windy and rainy, the sword would surface. That’s why people call it Sword-pool.
When Zheng’s troops rested alongside the shore, a jiant turtle emerged from the sea. The soldiers were scared to death, so Zheng strafed the turtle. It was so frightened that it stood still and became the Turtle Mountain. The legend of Zheng (4)
There is a unique mountain in Kaoshiung City. Because the ridge is so flat as if cut into half by a knife, people call it Mt. Half, or Mt. Ban-Ping in Chinese.. Mt. Half
The legend of Mt. Ban-Ping A god wanted a pupil. He used soil and stones to make pies, and the sign said: one for one dollar, and more for two dollars. Almost every villager paid two dollars for as many as he could take.
Then a young man paid one dollar for one pie. After having the first one, he paid one dollar for the second one. He did this for several days.
The god found that the young man was not greedy and was content with his life, so he took the young man to the wonderland. As for those greedy villagers, the mountain on which they lived was destroyed and half of the original mountain remained. And that is Mt. Ban-Ping.

The legend of the filial nail In Qing Dynasty, a man who lived in Fu-Jian went to Taiwan to make a better living. However, there was no news from him for a long long time, so his wife and his child went across the Straight to find him.
When they went ashore, they were drawn into the sea. The child was rescued by a fisherman but the mother was missing.
The child decided to find his parents. When he knew that Ma-Zu in Chao-Tien Temple was efficacious, he prayed to Ma-Zu and said, “if Ma-Zu can help me find my parents, the nail could be inserted into the stone.” Location
Then he inserted the nail into the stone. The witnesses felt amazing and named the nail “the filial nail”. Soon, the child found his parents just as expected.
