Erosion

Erosion deals with the surface of the earth. The main agent of erosion is gravity because it makes the tides.

Deposition: The process of material being added to the surface from one place to another.

Deposition causes eroded material to slide downhill.

Weathering

The three things that make the rocks weather is air, rocks and glaciers.

There are two types of Weathering:

*Physical Weathering: Water , Wind and Temperature.

Ex: The Grand Canyon’s stream.

*Chemical Weathering: Acid Rain and Rust

Ex: Caves Acidic Water.

Rock Cycle/ Rock Types

The three main rock formations in the rock cycle are igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary.

The rock cycle is a model that describes the formation of the 3 main types of rocks.

Igneous rock: when a rock melts, then crystallizes or cools.

Metamorphic rock: when a rock undergoes heat and pressure that changes.

Sedimentary Rock: made of compressed sediments like sand, stone, pebbles, ect.

Fossils
  • Fossils are usually found in Igneous Rocks.
  • Fossils form by the organisms parts being replaced by sediment overtime.
  • Fossils can tell us what animal and what type of land was there before.
  • An example is a shark fossil being found on a hill we could say there was water once there.
superposition
Superposition
  • Superposition is the law that says newer layers will be deposited over older layers.
  • So the layers that are closest or that are the surface are newer and the farther in towards the core you go the older the layers will be.
  • In other words the layers on top are newer and the layers on the bottom are older.

Geologic Time Scale
  • The Geologic Time Scale is a system of measurement that is used by geologists ,paleontologists and other scientists who study the earth to describe the timing and relationships between events that have happened during the history of the earth.
