  2. Nominations Committee Composition ….(from the new RAS Bylaws)….   5. VP for Industrial Activities (from the new Bylaws) • Vice-President for Industrial Activities. The Vice-President for Industrial Activities shall be responsible for all industrial related matters and the growth of the industrial community within RAS, both by promoting the participation of industrial partners in current activities and thus creating more links with academics, and by proposing new actions beneficial to this community. The Vice-President for Industrial Activities shall chair the Industrial Activities Board. This Board will be composed of the Chair and four additional members appointed by the President in consultation with the Vice-President for Industrial Activities.   6. Nominations Committee • Part 1. Standing Rules on Nominations • 1.1. General rules By May 31 each year a Call For Nominations shall be distributed to AdCom members, published on the Magazine and also posted at the RAS website. Nominations shall be submitted to the Nomination Chair. Nominators (or self nominations) should indicate the position the nominee is seeking and the nominee’s agreement to serve if elected. Nominees will be considered by the Nominations Committee in consultation with the Advisory Committee. A slate of candidates will be announced prior to the elections. At least two candidates for the President-Elect office shall be nominated. The Nominations Committee shall perform the best possible effort to nominee at least two candidates for each VP office. Candidates issue written position statements shall be distributed to AdCom members before voting. Specific rules for the Nominations and Elections of the President-Elect and the Vice-Presidents-Elect …Vice-Presidents-Elect will be elected by secret ballot. One VP position will be elected at a time. Each candidate will be allowed to make a short oral presentation before voting. In case the candidate is absent for some acceptable reason, such as illness, a colleague can make the presentation on his/her behalf. Nominations can be made from the floor, but it is discouraged. If last minute nominations are contemplated, nominators are advised to inform the Nominations Chair in advance. The voting members present will cast secret ballots, and a designated two-member Tally Committee will count the ballots. Nominations Committee • Future activities • New AdCom members to be elected in 2004 “…(from the RAS Standing Rules) ..By May 31 each year, the Secretary, with the concurrence of the AdCom, shall define the number of AdCom members to be elected from each RAS Geographical Area with respect to the vacancies and to the residual composition of the incumbent AdCom…..” • For 2004, AdCom members who were elevated to a VP Office (Hamel, Maciejewski) have been replaced by Presidential appointment (Kozlowski, Okamura - term ending December 2005) • AdCom vacancies for 2004 elections are six IEEE Robotics and Automation Society RAS Spring Meeting Series Report New Orleans, Louisiana • April 26-May 1 2004

Each group shall be composed of a slate of candidates from each of the three RAS Geographical Areas Each slate of candidates from each of the three RAS Geographical Areas shall be composed of at least two more nominees than the number of vacancies All RAS members will receive the same ballot displaying separately the three sub-groups candidates in alphabetical order. Nominations Committee • Future activities • New AdCom members to be elected in 2004 “…Each RAS member can vote for a maximum of six candidates belonging to any of the three RAS Geographical Areas. Candidates will be ranked in three separate lists, one for each of the RAS Geographical Areas. The six elected AdCom members who received the highest number of votes in the elections held in the last immediate three years (i.e. the two most voted AdCom members elected each year) will be considered elected-at-large A number of candidates corresponding to the vacancies identified by the AdCom for that year for each of the RAS Geographical Areas will be elected from the ranking list associated to the corresponding RAS Geographical Areas.” IEEE Robotics and Automation Society RAS Spring Meeting Series Report New Orleans, Louisiana • April 26-May 1 2004
