Fly to Berlin on your next Lufthansa booking Stand as the most fascinated city in the world, Berlin will give you a trip down memory lane reminiscing about its past as you wander through different neighborhoods. This post will give you a glimpse of an experience that you can taste in the city of Berlin.

  6. Head into the middle of the city to Brandenburg Gate, one of the most iconic landmarks in all of Germany. It marks the western entrance into Berlin when it was a much smaller city. Since then, it has become a symbol of one’s arrival and presence into the great German city. A short walk away from here is the Jewish Holocaust Memorial which was built in 2004 to ensure that we do not forget the lives of the murder Jews living in Europe during the Nazi reign. The memorial occupies an entire city block and features rows of concrete blocks. As you walk through the rows, the ground slopes into the middle which gives you a sinking and trap feeling, the further you venture inside. Right next to the Brandenburg Gate is the Reichstag Building which hosts the German national government. This architectural marvel has experienced many phases of German politics for centuries. After World War II it lay in ruins and was abandoned during the cold war as Germany was divided into two. Today, the Reichstag building was restored and fully operational with an incredible glass dome on the roof that visitors climb up to and explore inside. While Germany’s beer capital is Munich, Berlin does have a beer culture too. It includes a few

  7. beer gardens. One should always take a tour of Prater Biergarten, Berlin’s oldest which forest opened its doors in 1837. Nestled within the Prenzlauer’s neighborhood, it has plenty of seating with reasonably priced drinks and food and a great atmosphere. Another beer garden that you can visit is Cafe Am Neuen See, as this spot is located next to a peaceful lake which provided a naturalistic vibe to accompany the delicious food and beer. Not fare from the cafe Am Neuen See is Victory Column which was first conceived to commemorate the victory in the Prussian Danish War. While it was being built Prussia also won the Austro-Prussian and Franco-Prussian wars, and so the Victory Column would go on to become a symbol for all three of these wars and German unification. You can enjoy the column up close by taking tunnels underneath the traffic circle. For a small price, you can even walk up to a top to enjoy the views over Berlin. If you’re still full of energy, you can walk back to the Brandenburg Gate in the center of Berlin. Along the 2.1 km stretch lies the June 17th Street, a beautiful tree-lined boulevard.

  8. One of the most visited sports in all of Berlin is the public square Alexander Platz, a popular square throughout Berlin’s history. It was redeveloped in the 1960s to showcase the strength of communist ideals in architecture, as one can feel the social history all throughout the square. In Alexander Platz, feel free to spot the tallest structure in Berlin, a TV tower. Berlin’s trip is incomplete without the Berlin Wall, a must site to visit in Berlin. Throughout the Cold War, the whole city was divided in half - East Berlin and West Berlin. The Berlin Wall snaking its way in between the city to divide into two halves. Berlin is the city that does not hide its broken and dark past away. There are few places where the remains of the wall can still be found and see today. The busiest spot is the Eastside Gallery where a 1,300 meter stretch of the Berlin Wall remains. The eastside gallery features a collection of murals painted on the walls in 1990 after reunification. The various artwork gives a glimpse back into the past on a city that remembers its scars but hopeful for the future.

  9. Let’s wrap up by talking about food. If there’s one cuisine that you to try in Berlin, it is Currywurst which is sausage with a curry flavor infused ketchup. This dish is iconic to Berlin. It is delicious and cheap, so you can’t go wrong with it. While talking about food, if you’re an ice-cream fan, you must try the Jones ice-cream. With the unique choice of flavors and the perfect quality of the ice-creams, Jones is in the top 5 of the best ice-creams in the world. There’s a lot more to explore in Belin. Let us know what’s your favorite spot in Berlin in the comment section below.
