With its wishes to start water fluoridation, the NZ Government could be pouring your tax-money down

The government in NZ wishes to take control of water fluoridation & plans mandate it for all in an attempt to control tooth decay. It is basically old technology, with unproven safety & it is mass medication, with dentists getting concerned about its ethics. One of the writings recently on a dental site said: u201cItu2019s my opinion that in 1964 when the decision was made about fluoridating the water in Birmingham, this would have met justificatory conditions for Childress; however, I canu2019t see how the same decision could be considered ethically warranted if it were to be made today.

  1. With its wishes to start water fluoridation, the NZ Government could be pouring your tax-money down the drain!

  2. The government in NZ wishes to take control of water fluoridation & plans mandate it for all in an attempt to control tooth decay. It is basically old technology, with unproven safety & it is mass medication, with dentists getting concerned about its ethics. One of the writings recently on a dental site said: “It’s my opinion that in 1964 when the decision was made about fluoridating the water in Birmingham, this would have met justificatory conditions for Childress; however, I can’t see how the same decision could be considered ethically warranted if it were to be made today.” The same writer also expresses “unease” about “enforcing such a measure upon the unwilling participants without enough evidence for showing just cause”.

  3. However, Water Fluoridation doesn’t even work. In the year 1986, the US National Institute of Dental Research examined over 39,000 children aged five between 17 to 84 areas. About one-third of them were fluoridated, one-third partially fluoridated & the remaining one-third were non-fluoridated. Following a Freedom of Information request, this data was analysed by John A Yiamouyiannis, PhD, & no statistically significant differences in the tooth decay were found between any of the areas, though it was declined in all, over 25 years, irrespective of the fluoridation status. Thus, governments that continue with this futile but with its headline-grabbing intervention are literally pouring your tax-money down the drain.

  4. An alternative to water fluoridation is a good old-fashioned nursery or school dentist with health visitors engaging hard to reach families & teaching them dental hygiene. Moreover, the Scottish Child Smile programme has been going for a few years & is proven to be more successful at preventing dental decay in comparison with water fluoridation. And tooth decay amongst Scottish children is now observed about half of that of long-term fluoridated New Zealand. A similar program in Iceland has reduced tooth decay in 12-year-olds by 77 percent in 10 years. Not one mg of fluoride was ever ingested!
