  9. How will Year 9 be Assessed? All students have an assigned pathway and an end of Y11 target grade Above track Working above target Working at target On track Working below target Below track Working well below target Serious concern When teachers enter data that will be shared with home they will use the terms above. They will using their judgement to say whether they feel students are on track to meet their end of Y11 target grade.

  11. Tracking Your Child’s Progress Home Learning: Home Learning is set at least once a week per subject. Home learning is shared through the Show my Homework platform, making it completely transparent GPOP: Detailed feedback is given on students’ work at least 12 times across the year for each subject. Students must act upon the detailed feedback in green or purple pen (GPOP) Reports: Termly reports which are graded for Attitude to Learning, Home Learning, Progress Indicator and Targets for Improvement are written & sent home.

  13. Attendance, Punctuality, Organisation Children with 96% attendance are 5 times more likely to get 5 or more GCSE grades 9 - 4 than those with 85%.

  26. Effective Learning Strategies “The harder I practice the luckier I seem to get…” • Basic Building blocks: • Create the right environment • Create a home learning timetable • Incorporate some physical activity into your daily routine

Things you can try: • Make flow charts and mind maps and put them up on your walls at home • Use mnemonics to help you remember things • Draw pictures ad sketch diagrams • Read information out loud • Retell what you have learned or talk things through with your friends and family • Make audio recordings of what you want to learn and play these back to yourself • Be active – take frequent breaks when you revise • Walk around, stand up or rock in a chair when you’re revising • Act out an event to help you remember it • Hide revision terminology round the room and walk to each note to read it (rather than just sitting at a desk).

Careers • If you would like to know more information about the careers provision at EPHS please visit the school website at https://www.ephs.ealing.sch.uk/careers-guidance.html. • The website contains our careers policy and careers map as well as up-to-date labour market information for parents and children to access. • If there are any parents/carers with strong industry connections/opportunities please contact Mr Myers at mmyers@ephs.ealing.sch.uk.

  33. Extra Curricular Activities • Parental consent form (SV0) • This evening you have been given a new SV0 consent form for extra-curricular trips. This form allows you to provide consent for your child to take part in off-site activities and is an opportunity to update medical information. • This used to be distributed at the start of each academic year however this year we have moved to a one-off consent form.

Extra Curricular Activities • What does this mean? • The information requested is exactly the same as it has been previously, including the need for up-to-date medical information, and you will still be informed in advance of higher-risk trips. • Once this form is completed you will no longer be asked to complete this form again for the duration of your child’s education at EPHS. Therefore, if there are any changes in circumstances in regards to permission or medical information you will need to contact the school directly.

Student Welfare and Safety The school has a large team of staff supporting your child to ensure they stay safe and healthy: Individual Tutors – supporting each student on a daily basis Year Leaders and Assistant Year Leaders – overview of student well being. Pastoral Support Worker – attached to each Year group for day to day support and mentoring. Attendance Officer – ensure students attend school each day and are safe. Counsellors – used to support students with a range of issues and concerns. External agencies - and group provision to support individual and group needs. Please contact your child’s Year Leader if your child requires support.

What are some of the risks and concerns facing teenagers? • Road safety – travelling to and from school • Social media – child sexual exploitation and threats • Bullying – face to face and online • Substance misuse – alcohol and drugs • Stranger danger • Anti social behaviour and knife crime • Mental health concerns • Running into gangs or gang involvement At Elthorne Park High school, we run a well developed PSHCE curriculum providing an opportunity for your child to discuss these risks and what to do to keep themselves safe.

  40. Immediate risk and harm – what to do? • What to do if an argument or conflict develops? Our advice to students • De-escalate the situation …… • Stay calm and do not react or respond • Walk away from the situation • Inform and adult - your parents, a teacher - or any adult • If there is immediate threat, call 999 and ask for the emergency services

  42. Next Steps Students are expected to focus on working as hard as possible in lessons so they can make a fully informed choice. Subject Leaders will be delivering subject assemblies to Year 9 as the year progresses. Encourage your child to talk to their subject teachers about the topics covered in their GCSE – How is it different to what they have covered in Year 7, 8 and 9? The Options process will begin with each student receiving one to one support to make the correct pathway decision.
