Los motores turboprop o turbohélice contienen una unidad generadora de gases al igual que los motores turbojet, pero su diferencia radica en gran parte de la energía producida se emplea para mover una hélice a través de una caja de reducción. Los motores turboprop o turbohélice han sido utilizados desde hace varios años en aeronaves pequeñas y medianas que operan en un rango de velocidades entre 480 y 720 Km/hr en los cuales muestran su mayor eficiencia y menor consumo de combustible
