Jewish and Palestinian Conflict Page 22Page 1 Page 2Page 3 • The British supported an independent Jewish state • Palestinians were afraid they might be pushed off their land by returning Jews who had British Support. • The division of Palestine was apart of the WWI treaty. This caused tensions to increase. • Kibbutzim are Jewish farming Communities. • British discovered Jewish land purchases were causing the greatest conflict. • Ancient Palestine is the homeland to both Jews and Palestinians. • Jews believed that the land was a gift from God. • Diaspora is the mass movement of Jews out of Palestine during the Roman invasion. • Jews were attacked in European Countries and as a result Zionism occurred. • Zionism is the return of the Jewish people to their Palestinian homeland. • During the Holocaust 6 Million Jews were murdered. People around the world begin supporting an Jewish state. • Jews continued to favor a division. • In 1947 the UN voted to partition (divide) Palestine into two states. Israel was established May 14th 1948. • Arabs were furious. Palestinians felt they should rule all of Palestine. • On May 15th 1948 troops from six Arab states invaded Israel. Israel won. 900,000 Palestinians fled the war zone. They have remained homeless ever since.

  18. U.S. Bill of Rights!! Determine if your laws would interfere with the basic rights of American Citizens according to the U.S. Bill of Rights. (First 5)Would my laws interfere with the rights of American Citizens? Amendment 1 -Protects the rights of every Americans freedoms of religion, speech, and press. Amendment 2 -Right to bear arms, or own guns. Amendment 3 - Prevents the government from forcing citizens to let soldiers live in their homes. Amendment 4 - Protects the privacy of American citizens. It prohibits, or prevents, unnecessary or unreasonable searches of a person's property. Amendment 5 - AllAmericans are guaranteed the right to a fair and legal trial. It also protects someone from testifying against him- or herself under oath.
