Traditional Indian Modern Living Room Design

Discern's design team was tasked to create a render of an Indian living room design in an urban Indian apartment, that was traditionally Indian in decor. They got to work creating a render that incorporates traditional Indian design elements as imagined in a high-rise apartment in a metropolitan city. As they were focusing on a living room, their reasoning was that this should be a lively space, since it is the main room in a house where people usually gather together.

  2. THE COLOUR PALLETE The colour palette consists of (from left to right) ‘Brown’, ‘Cerulean Blue’, ‘Mauve’, ‘Magenta’, ‘Blush Red’, and ‘Orange’. These are the most popular colours that are seen to be widely used in more traditionally Indian homes. The Brown is seen mostly in the wood furniture and the Orange, Blush Red, Magenta, and Mauve represent floral, and nature-inspired colours.

  3. During the rise of the Mughals and then the Raj, popular crafts such as wooden furniture carving, work with metal ware and earthenware, pottery, sculpting, woodwork, hand-printed textiles and scarves, embroidered and crocheted goods, and stone carving become the cornerstone of Indian artistic traditions. These kinds of items are therefore regularly seen in traditional Indian style living room or homes.

  4. Back in the day, the Portuguese in India commissioned local carpenters to create copies of furniture in the styles they were familiar with, at home. The Indian carpenters used considerable freedom and created a striking combination of eastern and western styles.

  5. The ‘Pure Divine Lion’ sculpture from Fab Furnish definitely adds a regal touch to any space. Made of brass, this can be one of the best artefacts for your Ethnic- inspired space. The ‘handmade miniature elephant painting' from Ebay is printed on canvas and is painted in watercolours. When framed, it adds an elegant, Ethnic charm.
