  1. Strapped: Why America's 20- and 30-Somethings Can't Get Ahead By Tamara Draut Guzman, Maria 54549 English 1301 5:30 – 7 p.m. TR Professor Horn

  2. Why is This Important to Me? It informs me of the many barriers that young adults face today and the causes for the traditional American Dream diminishing.

  3. My Response • Deregulated credit card companies' tactics affects a majority of vulnerable credit card holders. • In order to get ahead in life, adults resort to borrowing extensively. • The gap of inequality is widening. I Agree!

  4. But wait! Live Within Your Means! I also disagree “I found ourselves sitting in the middle of our living-room floor, our entire CD collection spread out before us.” Be Frugal! >Entire CD Collection >Collection So much blame has been placed on the government when a person’s lack of common sense in making important decisions is to blame as well. • $57,000 in student loans and $19,000 in credit card bills • Lives in one of the most expensive cities in the nation, yet she flies regularly for the past 8 years? If a friend shuns you forever for not attending his/her wedding due to your financial troubles, THAT’S NOT A FRIEND.

  5. A college degree is essential to becoming part of the middle class, despite costing a fortune. • Jobs with good benefits are scarce. • The gap of inequality is widening. • Having a family comes with greater stakes and consequence.s • There is a growing lack of political participation. • The American Dream is remaining a dream. There are difficult obstacles to overcome!

  6. Three Major Points in My Book Report: The failure of public policy and participation in the U.S. is the result of the citizes’slack of faith or disinterest in the government and politics. • A majority of young adults believe politicians have failed their generation. Unstable jobs with close to no chance of upward mobility have increased. • The social contract between citizen and government is now less probable. In order to get ahead in life, adults resort to borrowing extensively. • Regardless of salary, a majority of young adults are more susceptible to being in debt than previous generations.
