E Mail • To use email, you need both an email address and a program to handle it • Advantages of using emails: • Emails can be sent over the Internet to anybody who has an email address • An email arrives almost instantaneously and at low cost anywhere in the world • The recipient picks it up when they are ready • Before using email, you should be familiar with netiquette ”network etiquette” • Netiquette “a set of rules governing how you should use email • Messages should be short, to the point and sent only to those who need them • When you reply always be sure that the subject is relevant to your reply Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

Email addresses • An email address is similar to a website address • The format is alwaysusername@domain_name • The username is you and the domain_name is either the Internet Service Provider (ISP) who gives access to the Internet, or a website address, for example:sam.brown@virgin.netsam-brown@aol.comsam@brownfamily.demon.co.uk • An email address has no spaces and is usually all in small letters • Every email address is unique Al Ittihad Private School-Jumaira Module 7 “Web Browsing and communication” Amira Mohammed Zedan

Using Outlook Express • Click the Outlook Express iconon your desktop or in the Start menu, otherwise select Start, All Programs, Outlook Express • The Outlook Express window lets you: • compose messages • send and receive emails • reply to emails • forward emails • print emails • keep contact names in an Address book • file old emails in folders.
