  5. Assessment Methods and Item Types Direct Performance Method: 1. Selected Response a question with 3 options and only one correct answer 2. Performance Task an activity/action that is completed by the student and scored based on the proficiency of the performance Observation Method: 1. Observational Rubric descriptions of specific behaviors along a developmental continuum to be observed in the classroom setting and scored based on the quality of a child’s response/behavior

  10. Item Type: Observational Rubric • A standardized set of specific behaviors observable in a child’s natural learning environment. • Behaviors are described along a developmental continuum and are scored based on a child’s level of performance or the quality of a child’s response/behavior

Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) Field Test 2013 • PURPOSE: • To gather data on assessment items that will inform refinement and selection of items for the full Census Administration in Fall 2014. The focus is on each assessment item relative to the intended skill being assessed by the item and the feasibility of use in classroom settings. • Further, the field test: • Investigates the accessibility of assessment items for all children • Includes gathering teacher feedback on the process of administering the assessment and the professional development they received

Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA)Field Test 2013 Design: A representative sample of students and schools was selected based on Ohio’s overall demographic statistics The estimated sample size is 4200 students Timeline: November 4 – December 20 Number of test items: Approximately 124 KEA items

  20. Fall Administration of KEA • KEA is not to be administered before the start of school. • Window to assess students is from 1st day of school to November 1st.

  21. Fall Administration of KEA • If a district wants to use the KEA to assess students for Third Grade Guarantee, the Language and Literacy Domains can be administered first and scores submitted by the Sept. 30th deadline. • It is estimated that is will take approximately one hour per child to administer all the domains of the KEA.

KEA – Data Collection will be used to: • Inform prior early learning and development stakeholders. • Identify individual children’s needs and provide necessary supports to children and teachers. • Assist teachers in data-driven instructional decision-making at the child and classroom level. • Provide families with information about their children’s learning and development.
