  3. 2. Galleries • 3 seating sections • Paid more to sit in this section • Wooden benches • Under a hatch roof • Protected from sun

  4. 3. Open yard • Paid one penny to stand • No protection from weather • Groundlings could participate in the action of the play • Would throw food at the actors • Yelling at actors

  5. 4. Trapdoor • Actors playing ghost or witches • Could use to descend through this into main stage • The cellar underneath was referred to as hell

  6. 5. Inner Stage • Used mostly for outdoor sciences • Had curtain that could be opened or closed for scene change

  7. 6. Main Stage • Where the main action of the play took place • Especially the outdoor scenes

  8. 7. Tiring House • Dressing and Storage Rooms • Actors rested here between scenes and changed into lavish costumes which made up for lack of props • Doors also served as actors’ main exits and entrances

  9. 8. Upper Stage • “ The Chamber” • Used for most bedroom and Balcony Scenes • The balcony above was used for musicians and sound effects
