  2. Digital Televiewer Prof. Mohan Trivedi Electrical & Computer Engineering IEEE Pioneer Award Editor-in-chief, Machine Vision & Applications Layer Leader for Intelligent Transportation and Telematics, California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology [CAL-IT(2)] Head, Computer Vision and Robotics Lab, UCSD

  3. Digital Televiewer Product Vision: • Turn-key end-user video system • 360° viewing with software pan-tilt-zoom. • Applications: homeland security, smart cars, and traffic monitoring. Technology: Software that can utilize fixed hyperbolic mirror cameras that produce 360° images, then decode the image to provide rectilinear views - with built-in security levels - on PC’s, PDA’s, or as part of a more sophisticated sensor system.

  4. DTV Highway-mounted cameras providing live traffic monitoring

  5. DTV Potential Market: • 96% of security equipment buyers for Global 500 companies purchased video surveillance equipment in 2001 • Latest budget appropriations for Homeland Security are above $30 billion. • Each casino uses roughly 800 cameras to monitor the gaming. Sources: Security Magazine survey, CCAT market survey, whitehouse.gov

  6. DTV • State of Development: Various working prototypes deployed around San Diego • IP Status: Patent pending - PCT Published (WO 2004/004320) • Market Status:Worldwide rights available

  7. DTV • Developmental Plan:Begin to manufacture turn-key systems (est. cost $1,000 - $2,800 at low volumes) while developing new software apps. • Business Strategy: Initially, fund lean system integration-oriented business as a specialty solution provider. Possibly joint venture with key customer (casino, airport security). • Potential Inventor Roles:Inventors could serve as an advisor
