  1. Critical Design Review Personnel Safety System: PSS0 www.europeanspallationsource.se 2018-02-08

  2. Introduction Ion Source/LEBT Test Stand • ESS follows a staged installation and commissioning plan • Ion Source and LEBT (made in Catania/INFN) have arrived in Lund and are currently installed • 1st step is to operate the Ion Source and LEBT as “test stand”safely

  3. Introduction PSS0 • PSS0 is the electrical safety system for the Ion Source and LEBT test stand • Mitigation against electrical hazards is implemented by switching off the HV PS (90kV) of the Ion source HV platform • Installation is prepared to start on 2018-02-12 (rack installation, cable termination, etc) • Scope is restricted to electrical hazards. • Radiation hazards (prompt ionising radiation/not activation) are mitigated by shielding the areas where dose levels might exceed >2microSieverts/h with lead. • Prompt radiation hazards are mitigated also indirectly by switching off the HV PS of the Isrc (no power, no beam)

  4. MP/PSS - Group Structure Machine Protection and Personnel Safety Systems Group Annika Nordt: Group Leader, WPM (2012-05) Denis Paulic: Deputy Group Leader (2015-03) Riccard Andersson: Technical Project Coordinator (2017-08) Machine Protection ICS/WP14.5: Manuel Zaera-Sanz (Senior Engineer: 2014-08) Enric Bargallo (Lead Analyst for Dependability, MP: 2017-04) Szandra Kövecses (Lead Integrator: 2017-05) Stephane Gabourin (Lead Engineer Fast Interlocks: 2017-08) Viktor Fred (Lead Engineer Electrical Installations: 2017-09) David Valdepenas (Automation Engineer: 2017-10) Fernando Carrasco Martin (Technician: 2018-02) Personnel Safety Systems ICS/WP14.9: Stuart Birch (Senior PSS Engineer, WPM: 2014-08) Morteza Mansouri (SCS Engineer: 2015-05) Yong Kian Sin (IEC 61508 Controls Engineer: 2016-02) Alberto Toral (Technician: 2017-03) Mattias Eriksson (Technician: 2017-11) Vacancies: 1 Technician Goal: Build a flexible and strong team, sharing & extending the different skill sets. Everyone has knowledge relevant for both MP and PSS. MP and PSS will follow IEC61508.
