  2. WHAT DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING HAVE IN COMMON?

  3. THEY ALL HAVE USED THEIR VOICESTO IMPROVE EITHER THEIR OWN LIVES, THEIR COMMUNITIES OR EVEN THEIR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!

  4. WE WANT TO USE FAS TO INCREASE STUDENT VOICE AT TRAVIS HIGH SCHOOL.THIS IS YOUR SCHOOL. GET INVOLVED TO MAKE OUR SCHOOL THE BEST SCHOOL IN AUSTIN.

  5. BUILDING ON LAST YEARS SUCCESS! NO PLACE FOR HATE INITIATIVE AND THE FAS STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES

Last year each FAS class elected a student representative. • The FAS REPS met with administration and their opinions were used to guide the spring FAS activities. • The school also became a NO PLACE FOR HATE campus through activities run through FAS. • This year, we want to increase student voice in FAS and Travis High School. STUDENT VOICE AND FAS

FAS Student Representatives were elected in each class in January. • FAS Reps became a leadership cadre. • FAS Reps lead middle school visits of Travis and served as school ambassadors. • FAS Reps lead the No Place For Hate initiative. • FAS Reps presented the initiative to the faculty and led the Culture Collage lesson. 2010-2011 FAS REPS

  8. Culture Collage: All students and staff were encouraged to make a culture collage in FAS. These were united into a giant art project. • Diversity Week: Students signed the Resolution of Respect and the Culture Collage was hung and displayed. • Day of Silence: A lesson on the movement to support GLBT students was conducted. Many students and staff participated on Friday, April 15th. NO PLACE FOR HATE

Your FAS REPS will be your voice in communicating your ideas/concerns about FAS. • Your FAS REPS will be your voice in communicating ideas/concerns about our school to the administration. • FAS REPS will serve as student ambassadors. • FAS REPS will help your FAS teacher lead your FAS class 2011-2012 FAS REP ROLES

  11. What qualities make someone a good leader? • Who will best represent your FAS class to the administration? • Who will best represent your FAS class to the school? • Who will best represent your FAS class to the community? BRAINSTORM TIME:

Decide on a process to elect your two FAS REPS. • You will have a primary FAS REP and a co-REP who can serve as an alternate. • FAS Teachers will go to the shared drive and put the FAS REPS names onto the FAS REPS spreadsheet in the FAS folder. • FAS REPS will meet with administration at least once a six weeks during FAS. ELECTION TIME

  13. THANK YOU FOR SERVING THE TRAVIS COMMUNITY.WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THIS INTIATIVE TO CREATE A TRULY DEMOCRATIC COMMUNITY WHERE STUDENTS WORK WITH ADULTS TO CREATE THE BEST SCHOOL IN AUSTIN!
