Generators • Installed in an approved manner • According to NEC Article 700 and • NFPA 110, Type 10, Class 24, Level 1 system for protected premises • NFPA 110, Type 60, Class 24, Level 2 system for supervising station automatic starting generators • NFPA 110, Type M, Class 24, Level system for supervising station manual starting generators 10.5.10

  37. Fuel • Store adequate supply for 6 months of required testing plus the 24 hr/ 5 minute rule • If a reliable source of supply is available with a 2 hour notice, a 12 hour supply of fuel stored is allowed 10.5.10.6

  38. Signal Priority • ECS signals can be elevated by evaluation through risk analysis to precedence over all other signals • Fire alarm signals • Emergency Mass Notification Signals • Hold Up Alarms • Supervisory Signals • Trouble Signals 10.6

  39. Distinctive Signals • Priority alarms, fire alarms, supervisory and trouble signals shall be distinctive and descriptively annunciated. • Audible signals can not sound like any similar device used in the same area. • Carbon Monoxide Sensors for example • At the control unit this can be done by the same audible alarm with a supplemental textual device 10.7

  40. ECS Priority Signals • Must be visible indication automatically with in 10 seconds at the fire alarm control unit or other designated location 10.8

  41. Fire Alarm Signals • Fire alarm signals shall be unique • Notification appliances shall activate within 10 seconds of an initiating device activation • Coded alarm signal shall consist of 3 rounds of 3 impulses 10.9

  42. Deactivation of Signals • Alarms • Visual and audible must be simultaneously deactivated • Key operated or equivalent protection • Subsequent activation of another circuit initiating device must restart alarm • If left in off position must initiate a trouble signal 10.10

  43. Deactivation of Supervisory Signal • Coded: 2 complete rounds • Restoral at least 1 complete round • Self restoring and Latching supervisory signals indicated within 90 seconds • Silencing allowed by authorized personnel • Visual continues • Left in off position shall cause a trouble signal 10.11

  44. Trouble Signals • Trouble signals shall be indicated with in 200 seconds • Intermittent signal must sound at least every 10 seconds • Can be silenced • Must resound every 24 hours • Sound until manually silenced • Retransmitted to supervisory station 10.12

  45. Performance and Limitations • Equipment shall be able to operate at 85% if nameplate voltage • Equipment shall be able to operate at 110% of nameplate voltage • Equipment shall operate at temperatures of 32 – 120 degrees F. • Equipment shall be able to operate at 85% humidity and 86 degrees F. 10.14

  46. Automatic smoke detectors must be provided at the location of all control equipment, NAC power extenders and supervising station transmitting equipment • For ceilings less 15’ or less, located on a ceiling or wall with in 21 feet of control unit • For ceilings over 15’, located on the wall above the control unit within 6’ of top 10.15
