  3. Presented by: Bridget Y. Gardner

  4. Why is it important for children under the age of 10 to learn how to use computers? Good aspects • It could standardize the teaching mechanism such as presenting a standard method of teaching • Certain subjects such as foreign languages might very well be successfully implemented over the internet and might even eliminate the need for teachers • The first use of computers where to enhance professional productivity. Bad aspects • It might be misused and misapplied if giving every kid a computer rather than teaching them anything. • Students become more focus on social networking rather than schooling.

  5. Is technology just limited to computers? • The answer to that question is no. More and more teachers are beginning to use film projectors, DVD, camcorders, digital cameras, radios, internet, and web cameras just to name a few.

  6. Are the use of computers, projectors, slides, and web cams affective in theclassroom? There are 3 different types of learners… • Listening learners • Seeing learners • Touch / experience learners Students having the ability to have hands on experience is very helpful to those students who are not able to grasp the concept of lecture only classes. Using instruments such as web cameras and televisions students can also observe how other students are learning around the world. In today’s society everything is becoming centered around technology and the internet so the younger children are expose to this type of environment I think that it makes it easier to adjust as they become older.

  7. Using technology as a learner • Learning occurs in context. Through computers, students can experience the real world--meeting the author, visiting the setting of a novel, etc.--or a simulation of the real world context. Learning is active. • When students become mentally involved in learning activities, they begin generating ideas and constructing meaning on their own.  Computers enable students to work with information and to communicate with others. Learning is social. • Using the Internet, students can collaborate on lessons, post ideas on a topic, and read and respond to the notes of others. Learning is reflective. • When students receive feedback about their thinking, learning is facilitated.  It does not matter whether the feedback comes from a teacher or a peer in a chat room.(Driscoll, 2002)
