Needs Assessment • Rate your knowledge/ understanding of the Core: • I have heard of it, but never implemented it • I have skimmed over the standards, but have not have time to dive deeper. • I have used the standards as objectives since that is a requirement of the district I work at, but don’t really understand the structure of the Core. • I don’t understand the structure of the Core. I am not familiar with the Critical Areas, Domains, Clusters, and Standards. • I am familiar with the structure, but can use a little bit more practice with the Critical Areas, Domains, Clusters and Standards. • I am fluent with the structure of the Core.

Why are the Shifts needed? • “To improve the quality of teaching educators must establish a common core of professional knowledge and skill that can be taught to aspiring teachers, across all types of programs and pathways.” (Ball & Foranzi, 2011) • “Teachers must understand their subjects deeply and flexibly, and skillfully represent them in intellectually honest ways to a wide range of students”. • ……..”shift teachers’ training from emphasis on knowledge and beliefs to a focus on judgment and action.”
