  2. Goal 6 • CISD will provide technology infrastructure, tools, and solutions to meet the administrative requirements of the District and to maximize learning for all students.

  3. Technology Upgrades • 3 year plan recently approved funding these projects: • Campus computing needs, • Ongoing district maintenance, • Bandwidth upgrade, • Infrastructure upgrade.

  4. Campus Computing Needs • Replacing old student hardware with faster and newer devices. • Reduces repair cost on older hardware / devices. • Purchasing refurbished computers to reduce acquisition costs. • Refurbished has the same warranty as a new device.

  5. Campus Computing Needs • Web PC Carts and iPad Carts • 347 WebPC laptop carts • 120 iPad carts

  6. Ongoing District Maintenance • Wireless Saturation (Completed Feb 2014) • Wall to wall wireless coverage in buildings • Next phase is density upgrade for high traffic wireless areas • BYOD, iPads, WebPC carts continue to support the need for increased wireless at campuses. Many people have 2 connected devices

Ongoing District Maintenance • System upgrades • Servers, storage and Internet filter • Phone system • Core networking equipment, routers and switches • Security system servers, panels and camera replacements • IP broadcast devices (TV over IP) • Onsite data backup system • Student & Finance servers

Bandwidth upgrade • Current internet bandwidth is 700mb (upgrading to 800mb in 2014-2015 school year) • More video, cloud computing, hosted programs (iLearn, Gradpoint, LMS, etc) requires additional bandwidth • Re-cabling schools for increased internal bandwidth • Replacing switches with faster/newer devices • Changing internal connection to our own fiber (from leased connections) for reliability and scaling. • Increase available bandwidth between campuses and admin

  9. Infrastructure Upgrades • Replacing older hardware that is used for emergency communication in power failure • Generators at hub campuses • Replace old IP Phones • UPS data center upgrade / replacement • Student system / network storage

Technology Support • Windows XP end of life • Implementing Windows 7 this summer • Certain models in our district that can handle and are licensed for Windows 7 will have a district image soon • Major system change was required for our internal imaging system to work with Windows 7 • 6 District network technicians travel to assigned campuses for work order and technology issues. • 2 District security technicians for security cameras, servers, projectors and other video related issues.

  11. Future • Mobile computing continues to be the future for anytime, anywhere learning • Multiple types of computing deviceclassrooms
