Why WordPress themes are better than Drupal and Joomla themes? WordPress CMS is the most popular CMS at present and hence WordPress themes are also on demand. Currently WordPress powers more than 23% of all the websites of all time. However that doesn't prove it better than the rest like Drupal and Joomla CMS. Hence we want to understand why WordPress CMS is considered better than Drupal and Joomla. Lets talk about common points: 1. GPL: All three CMS's are open source and licensed under GPL. 2. PHP and MySQL: All three of them use PHP and MySQL as their base. 3. All three use themes and templates: All three use templates and themes to make a different custom look for your website. 4. Modules or Plugins for added functionality: All three of them have option to add modules or plugins to increase the functionality of the website. While they are a lot similar there are many different aspects as well which has a greater impact on getting a website created based on them and hence users choose WordPress over the other 2. Lets see what points are the ones which users feel are important and hence choose WordPress over Drupal and Joomla: Easy to use and Install: All three of these CMSes WordPress, Drupal and Joomla have an easy one click installation button available with most shared hosting platforms. However the post install experience for WordPress is very simple with quick launch dashboard. User has a very few options like writing posts and pages or adding plugins or search for a theme. Searching theme is very easy via the Appearance>Themes dashboard on WordPress whereas on Drupal you have to leave the site and search and locate the zip file. Similarly for Joomla also you have to leave the site and search modules and templates which makes it cumbersome to use. Here the clear winner is WordPress in terms of ease of use and installation. Community Growth: Community is strong for all three of them however there are a lot of independent users who post video tutorials and lots of websites with lots of easy using tutorials and posts for WordPress which makes it even more easy to use for users who are beginners and novice. If you search anything for WordPress you get lots of answers more than what other 2 CMS offer. It clearly is an indication that the community growth for WordPress is quite more than that of both the other CMS. Help or Support and Resources: Getting help and support for WordPress themes and templates or plugins is quite easy as all you have to do is go to WordPress.org and click on support tab and you get all sorts of forums. You can also go to the theme page on WordPress.org and ask the theme author for support. In case you use a paid WordPress theme all paid theme users get access to their theme forums separately for support. Hence the help or support for WordPress is quite easy to get. Plus as discussed in the above point we have lots of readily available tutorials and videos available on the internet which make it more easy for customers to get a hang of WordPress and its use. Joomla and Drupal also have similar websites with similar system in place. However the online tutorials and videos make WordPress better in terms of help and support and resources. friendly titles, descriptions and meta and portfolio and gallery features etc. WordPress has more than 41,000 plugins whereas Drupal and Joomla are distant behind in terms of free plugins although Drupal though has close to 32,000 modules available as on this date. In this point we can't say which one is a clear winner because all it matters is the choice of a customer and the modules or plugins they need and if they are readily available for free to use. SEO friendly: WordPress has often been admired to as the most SEO friendly CMS because it offers all kinds of meta management like alt, title, keyword and description among others like Facebook and Rich text schemas. However with modules on Joomla and Drupal they both are also good in terms of SEO friendliness. Although Drupal has this feature most Drupal customers prefer custom work. Joomla is somewhat between both of them so uses both free as well as some custom work. In this case WordPress leads the other two by miles as it has more free themes and premium themes than both. Localization and Multi-lingual Support: WordPress is available in more than 53 languages and has a different WordPress install readily available for all the languages. You can also add your own language and easily translate the admin panel. Also theme developers and plugin developers provide easy integration with various multi-lingual plugins or scripts so that you can easily translate the themes as well as the plugins you use with WordPress. Joomla also has a similar feature and one can easily translate the admin interface as well as the themes can be easily translated using modules. Drupal also follows both in this category and provides extensive support for multi-lingual and localization. Hence in this category we can't select a clear winner among the three. Faster Loading: Faster loading of any web page is due to less scripts, lesser images loaded and optimized coding. All three CMS offer the same and it depends on the final theme or template and its coding which determine the loading of the page. Hence it can't be blamed on CMS for the same however WordPress often earlier was blamed for being slow and Drupal was applauded for being faster in terms of loading speed. However with passing time many web hosting companies have come with specialized hosting for each of the CMS. With more focus on WordPress CMS as it has been used worldwide more than the other two it has become more faster with use of technology. Security: Security patches are released from time to time and for all the three CMS as and when any security vulnerability is reported the core developers release an update. All the three are
actively updated and maintained and hence choosing a winner on this criteria would be difficult again. Conclusion: Among the three CMS we have seen that WordPress is the most preferred and most easy to use CMS and is actively supported with more plugins and more WordPress themes and templates being developed and getting online resources and help is more easy and readily available than the other two.
