Slide 2 • The degree of a state’s political, economic and societal development is an important determinant of domestic and international security (weak vs. strong states) • Development requires security and security requires development • How to proceed?
Slide 3 • There is a need for a comprehensive approach to security • There is a need for an interdisciplinary approach to development • The question of value priority: Freedom or order? Equity or liberty?
Slide 4 • Although democratic states with developed civil societies are better equipped to deal with conflicts arising from development, forcing democratization should be a policy well-thought and coordinated with domestic groups
