  1. DOES GAME BASED LEARNING IMPROVE CORPORATE TRAINING? Try this experiment with your corporate learners. Select a pilot audience and divide them into two groups. Keep the learning objective the same, but change the delivery method for each group. Offer a traditional training manual to the first group. They need to go through the manual and understand the process. Present the topic in a game-based format, also known as serious games or eLearning games, to the second group. Which group do you think will demonstrate an improved understanding of the learning objective? Chances are high that it will be the one that learns it through games. The delivery method of training significantly impacts the success of the program. If your learners get demotivated midway, then you lose a lot of money and effort. Games, usually, do not fail you. They have been used for a long time to teach skills and theories to learners. They are not only popular with children but adults as well. So, does it work for corporate learners too? Games have proven to be incredibly effective in the corporate training world. Let’s find out why. GAMES IMPROVE LEARNER ENGAGEMENT In a world filled with a multitude of electronic devices, the average person is competing with various distractions every day. In order to compete with this, you need to provide them with a learning experience that will keep them absorbed. This objective can be achieved well by games. Game-based learning keeps your learners engaged in the training content as they are encouraged to use their logical and cognitive abilities in the process. Plus, games are more enjoyable than other forms of training. They motivate learners while also encouraging both competition and collaboration. Since eLearning games are “practice by doing,” users retain up to 75% of what they learn. When employees retain more, they will also perform better. GAMES PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT Employees who are new to their role may not have hands-on job experience. They can only gain it by doing the job. This is fine for many jobs. But critical jobs like that of a surgeon, pilot, or construction worker operating hazardous equipment are risky. One mistake can result in the loss of life and property. So, how best should the employees gain hands-on experience? This is where game-based learning steps in. It provides a safe virtual environment where the learners can practice as much as they wish to. They are free to make any decisions they feel are right. Even if they are wrong, there is no real-life damage involved. They can retrace their steps and keep playing until they understand the concept and make the right decision. Simply put, eLearning games provide a playground for employees to practice predefined goals without any risks. GAMES ENCOURAGE MULTIPLE SKILLS Serious games are not just for fun. They are based on educational theories. They can help learners enhance multiple skills. They take them to a realistic environment where they make decisions and solve problems. Since they learn by doing, they tend to absorb these skills faster and more meaningfully.

  2. These skills are lifelong. Your employees can use them in both professional and personal aspects. Also, since companies can deploy eLearning games on computers, phones, and tablets, employees can play and learn when and where they want on the topics of their choice. GAMES ARE ENTERTAINING Games are suitable for all ages. They entertain almost everyone irrespective of their background. You need to balance its stimulation and playability factor. It is one of the best ways to cultivate healthy peer competition and inspire the learners to achieve more. It encourages them to explore and improve relevant skills. In a game-based environment, it is not obvious to the learners that they are learning something. The entertainment elements take them through the entire learning without making them feel like students. GAMES CREATE AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION A well-designed game helps create an emotional connection with the audience. When you have a realistic plot and characters, the learner feels as if they are a part of the story. They are ready to go the extra mile to help the protagonist overcome hurdles and achieve the final goal. The learners are emotionally invested in the game, and as a result, they tend to remember better. GREAT FOR MICROLEARNING As mentioned before, we tend to have short attention spans. Developing eLearning games allows you to provide quick yet very effective training. Three- to five-minute games can key in on vital points of a training program and delivery information that won’t overwhelm learners. For example, ELFA used micro learning games to teach about equipment leasing and another major company used it for sales training at their company.
