  1. Temperate Grasslands Tim Penoyer Lucas Crowley

  2. Location • Located in parts of every continent besides Antarctica

  3. Temperature • Winter: temperatures can reach well below 0 degrees in the colder regions such as North America and Asia • Summer: temperatures can rise up to over 90 degrees in most locations

  4. Precipitation • Low to moderate annual rainfall • Average rainfall per year: 20-35 inches • In the northern hemisphere, most of this rainfall is in the form of snow

  5. Animals • Grasslands have very little protection from predators and a ton of grass to eat. So the grasslands are mostly dominated by herbivore grazers. • Bison, antelope, prairie dogs, coyotes, lynx, falcons, fox, gophers, and horses

  6. Plants • Milkweeds, buffalo grass, ryegrass, foxtail grass, purple needlegrass, wild indigos, clovers, sunflowers, goldenrods, blazing stars, and asters. • Grasslands have very little trees; and if they do, it is very rare because most are easily destroyed in wild fires.
