  2. Virus and Life • Viruses are not alive, strictly speaking. • Zombies much? • Slaughterers of all life.

  3. Bacteriophages Genome- Single or double stranded DNA or RNA in linear or circular structures. • There is a protein shelling around the viral genome(DNA) creating a capsid(the head). • Each part of the bacteriophage(sheath, tails, head, etc.)allows for the attachment to the cell.

  4. Entering the Cell (general) • Surface proteins(glycoproteins) aid in locating and fusing into the membrane of a living cell. • Receptor-mediated endocytosis allows for viral entry. • Capsid removal, transcription of viral dna begins after viral genetic code implemented into host dna.

  5. POP GOES THE CELL • Virus DNA is replicated proliferously. • Cell becomes virus-making machine. • Once many viruses are made, they escape, often through lysis. • Lysis (ENZYME REMEMBER THAT) • Breakdown of cell membrane, and POP GOES THE CELL ! And now come more viruses. a million of them to be precise… c:
