  1. 10 DAYS BENJAMIN FRANKLIN The 10 most important days of Benjamin Franklin’s life…. Written by David Colbert

  2. He lived 30,761 days. Ben Franklin was a famous person that proved that lightning was electricity, he made the first library and fire station. But this isn’t even a small bit of all he’s done. I will be talking about his amazing feats throughout this PowerPoint.

  3. DAY 1… RUNAWAY Benjamin worked as an apprentice in his brother’s print shop when he was in his teens, like the one below, when he ran away. He was mad at his brother, James. So he left on a ship that left the Boston Harbor to New York. After a couple of days in New York he traveled to Philadelphia, PA.

  4. DAY 2….STRANDED • It’s Christmas eve and Franklin has a pocketful of letters from the governor of Pennsylvania, Sir William Keith to own his own print shop. When he gives the letters to the printer. The printer doesn’t recognize the name. Franklin realizes he has been played by a stranger. Above is a picture of Franklin about the time of the incident.

  5. DAY 3… POOR RICHARD • Franklin is now a successful printer. Now owning his own print shop he is making lots of money off the famous Pennsylvania Gazette. He later makes what is called Poor Richard’s Almanac. An almanac is a book or article that tell when crops will be best ,when tides roll in and even when bad weather approaches. • Here he is printing.

  6. DAY 4… LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE • Franklin has retired from daily printing work at the age of 46. He has been working on different electricity projects. One of these dangerous projects was to prove that lightning was the same thing as electricity. So he took a regular kite, tied a key to it so the kite would attract the lightning and it led into a bottle that that he could close and trap the electricity.

  7. DAY 5… A DANGEROUS MAN • Ben is on his way to have a meeting with the founder of Pennsylvania’s son, Thomas Penn. Years earlier the king of England borrowed money from William and to pay him back he gave land to William to sell to colonists. Thomas tricked Native Americans into leaving their homeland. Franklin had the meeting with Penn because the government needs a bigger frame. So once the meeting was over they settled the agreement and never talked again. Below on left is Thomas Penn and on the Right his father William

  8. DAY 6.. FORCE OF ARMS • The Americans are rioting over the force of the stamp act. Things from every newspaper to every crate shipped out of Boston there had to be a stamp that the colonists had to pay for. The reason that King George III made the colonists had the tax ,was the French and Indian war had huge costs. And Franklin went to British parliament and ended the stamp act. Above is the stamp used in the stamp act.

  9. DAY 7… AMBUSHED tea tax • Franklin is having a meeting at the privy council in the country of England. Some of the most powerful men of the king are at the meeting. The ‘’Privy council is furious about the actions of the colonists at the Boston tea party. Franklin is fighting to remove the governor of England from office. • Franklin is laughed at and made fun of , but he keeps his ground with a straight face. Once the meetings broke up Franklin slips out and goes home angry.

  10. DAY 8… UNLUCKY EXPRESSIONS join or die • Franklin is in a meeting watching some of the most wise men in the colonies fight over small reasons. These men will one day be called the founding fathers. Franklin is 70 years old. He had just gone to Canada a few months ago. When he got back he came down with a bad cold. While in Canada he bought a coonskin hat that was later one of his trade marks.

  11. DAY 9…. KING vs. KING • Franklin has gone to France to try to win their side and take them as the US’s allies. British spies are everywhere trying to get information on the friendship being formed between US and France. Finally when the bond is made everyone is in love with Franklin saying” On Live Franklin”. Above Franklin is in the ball room the night Of the decision.

  12. Day 10…. A RISING SUN • It’s a hot summer in Philadelphia. A building that many know as the Philadelphia Sate House ,is boarded shut so no spies can her what’s happening inside. But what is happening inside is very important. Men are making the final decision of making a union of 13 independent states. Franklin Makes the final speech then they decided. All but three voted and it was final. The United States were officially formed. Now to set up a government.

  13. OPINIONS… • This book was very good and I was very impressed. The format of it was very realistic like I was there the whole time. I give this book a 7 out of 10. Benjamin Franklin’s life was very fascinating and whoever reads this book next will love it. • , MATTHEW MOORE
