Innovations in Single Crystal Superalloys for Enhanced Efficiency and Durability
DESCRIPTION
This research investigates the impact of carbon, boron, and nitrogen additions on the solidification processing and properties of advanced single crystal superalloys. Findings reveal that carbide morphology influences defect formation, with implications for improved castability and defect tolerance in aircraft engine and industrial gas turbine applications, leading to increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption and emissions. The study also highlights the training of undergraduate and graduate students in this critical technology area.
