  4. “A helmet on every head in the Decade of Action for Road Safety” About GHVI • GHVI is a coalition of international road safety stakeholders with the common goal of halting the rising number of deaths and injuries caused by road traffic crashes • GHVI will support the establishment of country-level Helmet Vaccine Initiatives made up of non-government, government and corporate partners. • Local partners will lead in-country program implementation GHVI will pull resources and support actions for implementation of programs that aim at an achievement of 50% reduction in projected traffic fatalities by 2020.

Promoting Passenger Helmet Use & Helmets for Kids Cambodia 3-year Passenger Helmet Public Awareness Campaign, Dec 2011 – Jan 2014Tentative launch: QII 2011 √ Established the Cambodia Helmet Vaccine Initiative in May 2010 √ Helmets for Kids, Tuk-Tuk ads, banners and flyers √ Television Mini-Series ‘Regrets’ √ Endorsed by the Prime Minister √ Our ‘Commitment to Action’ announced at the Clinton Global Initiative Cambodia No mandatory helmet law for motorcycle passengers Results “One Helmet. One Life.” • Helmet ownership: 69.4% to 77.7% • ‘My child always wears a helmets’: 24.5% to 43.2% • ‘Regrets’ Viewers were 10% more likely to always put a helmet on their child

Promoting Helmet Use for BodaBoda riders & their passengers Uganda BodaBoda Helmet Campaign and Training WorkshopsTentative launch: QII 2011 √ Established the Uganda Helmet Vaccine Initiative in June 2010 √ Stakeholder workshop √ MoU with partners signed → Planning workshop in November 2010 √ Our ‘Commitment to Action’ announced at the Clinton Global Initiative Uganda • Motorcycle taxis • Public transport systems is unavailable • Motorcycle taxis (BodaBoda) fill the gap • Training of BodaBoda Associations is needed

Promoting Helmet Use for the Youth Senegal Youth Helmet Campaign and Helmet for Kids √ Established the Senegal Helmet Vaccine Initiative in March 2010 √ Outdoor concert with rapper Didier Awadi √ Radio campaign √ Helmet distribution and training in Ziguinchor → Expand Helmets for Kids to Kaolak Senegal • Helmet Assembly Plant in Senegal • The Senegal Minister of Transport visited Hanoi, Vietnam in May 2010 to observe the Protec helmet factory • A similar facility in Senegal could provide helmets to the Western Africa region

Other Countries – GHVI helmet donations • Mumbai, India • In conjunction with the Road Safety Week in January 2010, the Western Indian Automobile Association and the FIA Foundation have donated over 800 Protec helmets to children in Mumbai • Cancun, Mexico • At a road safety event in Cancun the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) donated 100 helmets to school children in March 2010. • Manila, Philippines • In May 2010, at a demonstration event in Manila, Philippines, in partnership with the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), GHVI distributed 1,000 helmets to school child. Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh attended the ceremony. • Managua, Nicaragua • GHVI donated 1,000 helmets to the Police and 500 helmets to school children handed over at a helmet awareness rising event in Managua in August 2010. • Beirut, Lebanon • 1,100 helmets were distributed to delivery man as part of the Kunhadi helmet awareness campaign in October 2010. • Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania • 500 child helmets will be distributed to students in December 2010.
