Lets get to know our congregation… • Who are the members? • Where are we located? • Where do members come from? • Do they live within the community or commute to church? • What is the age group and gender groupings? • What is the socio-economic status of the members? • Is the congregation urban, suburban or rural? • What are members’ attitudes towards the church? • What do we believe, what is our vision, mission?

  4. How have we changed through time? • Are we growing or declining, what causes such change? • What are our strengths and weaknesses as a church? • What are the opportunities opening up for us? • What are the impending threats? • You may wish to use SWOT Analysis as guide for this assessment

MISSION AUDIT • Who makes up the community? • Who are the key stakeholders? • Is it urban, suburban or rural? • What is the state of healthcare, education, transportation facilities? • How and where do people meet in the community? • What are the existing government facilities? • What are the pressing social problems?

MISSION AUDIT • What are the formal/informal political structures in the community? • What is the nature of the formal leadership, informal/traditional? • What non-political factors have influence on the political life of the community? • Which organizations do people regard the most and why? • Who controls the use of resources? • Are there organizations for women and youth and is their voice heard?

MISSION AUDIT • What are the socio-economic groupings in the community? • What are the major industries/businesses? • What are the sources of income of the people? • Who earns more? • Do most people work within or outside of the community? • What is the unemployment rate? • How much is the cost of living compared to household income? • What economic resources are abundant, who controls these resources?

MISSION AUDIT • What is the history of the area? • How has the area changed over time? • What is the cultural character of the area? • What are the predominant values and life styles? • What are the common beliefs and practices of the people? • What are the signs of the past that are still visible?

MISSION AUDIT • What are the different faiths and denominations in the area? • What is the percentage of different faiths? • What is the percentage of churched and un-churched people? • What is the degree of interfaith and ecumenical cooperation in the community? • How involved are the members of the churches in community life? • Where are the places of worship? • Is there a church council which meets to consider church related and community issues?
