  1. AUV Dock Decision Point One

  2. AUV & Dock Summary Status Failure to meet acceptance criteria at any Decision Point may result in removal of the AUV Dock from OOI • Two OOI AUVs have completed First Article and Factory Acceptance Testing • OOI conditionally accepted the vehicles prior to acceptance of entire system • One OOI AUV was deployed on the second leg of Pioneer IV in May • Dock qualification testing and delivery is delayed due to technical issues revealed in December 2014 bay tests: • Cone rotation system torque increase required [in work] • Vehicle stab connector safety release mechanism latch stiffness increase required [in work] • Dock cone strength and stiffness increase required [completed] • Forward plan to install Dock on Pioneer V • 3 System performance gates required by OOI • Decision Point #1 —Requires demonstration of readiness for Shallow Water test by ~May 14 • Decision Point #2 –Requires demonstration of readiness for Longevity Test~July 15 • Decision Point #3 – Requires acceptable performance during longevity test ~August 20

  3. AUV-Dock Decision Point #1 Criteria 1/2

  4. AUV-Dock Decision Point #1 Criteria 2/2

  5. AUV FAT • AUV FAT successfully completed with contingencies identified • The AUV FAT was performed in April 2015. • Data provided to OOI and spot checks have been performed • FAT report submitted with open items identified • 04-10-2011 CDRL C001 FAT Report 20150514.pdf • 88 AUV requirements were identified • 80 are fully tested and compliant through FAT report • 5 will be tested during the shallow water testing • 3 in process of closing • AUV was delivered to OOI for support of the Pioneer IV cruise • Successfully operated and data collected

  6. Dock Functionality with Pierside Testing • Significance of Maintenance Cycles during Pierside Testing • Corrective action completion for motor over torque issue • Pierside test proves corrective action is successful • Demonstrates readiness for Cape Cod Bay testing • Maintenance cycle includes • Full rotation clockwise and counter clockwise • Stab engagement/mating to dummy connector • Ejection mechanism for undocking tested • Successfully completed 11 maintenance cycles in water • Maintenance cycles were completed within a 24 hour period

  7. Dock Software Status • 64 dock software requirements • 59 (92%) at coded or tested level • 39 Pierside tested • 16 Bench tested • MFN and satellite communication tested through simulation • 4 Coded • Satellite communication data transfer tasks • 5 In Detail Design • Data subsetting transfer remain open through end-to-end testing • Complete by start of Shallow Water Test, June 10, 2015 • Can be tested without deployment in water

  8. Shallow Water Test Plan Delivered • June 10 -17 2015 test date • RV Connecticut available for test • Test area is Cape Cod Bay • Objective • Demonstrate that the OOI-AUV Dock System can reliably perform all tasks involved in a full deployment of the AUV-Dock system. • Objective tasks follow the same outline as the Pierside testing • Acoustic communications • AUV docking and undocking • Power management • Data management and transfer

  9. AUV Dock Path Forward – Key Dates

  10. Summary • Successfully reached the Decision Point 1 Milestones • AUV Factory Acceptance Testing and Pioneer IV cruise support • Pierside testing of AUV and Dock • Rotation in water • Demonstration of AUV-Dock stab • Software integration testing • Shallow Water Test Plan provided • Next steps • Continue with functional testing of AUV and Dock Pierside in preparation for shallow water testing and Dock FAT • Continue software activities • Debug remaining items found during Pierside Testing • Complete data subsetting open items • Support integration activities with OOI Program • ETC -- $614,190K [$462K above balance] • Ship and Personnel Support to Hydroid Shallow Water Test, to DP#2 • WHOI-conducted Longevity Test, to DP#3 • Operator Training
