  2. Upcoming Launches

  3. METOP-A (10/19/06) Primary AM Satellite Global Data Service No AHRPT No LRPT NOAA-18 (5/20/05) Primary PM satellite GACs LACs HRPT on STX-3 (1707.0 MHz) APT on VTX-1 (137.1 MHz) NOAA-17 (6/24/02) Secondary AM Back-up Satellite GACs LACs HRPT on STX-1 (1698.0 MHz) APT on VTX-2 (137.62MHz) NOAA-16 (9/21/00) Secondary PM satellite GACs No LAC HRPT on STX-2 (1702.5 MHz) No APT NOAA-15 (5/13/98) Back-up AM satellite GACs No LAC (downlink constraint) HRPT on STX-2 (1702.5 MHz) APT on VTX-1 (137.5 MHz) NOAA-14 (12/30/94-5/23/07) Decommissioned NOAA-12 (5/14/91-8/10/07) Decommissioned POLAR Constellation Configuration

  4. POES Constellation Status (20 Aug 08) Capable of meeting all requirements (Limited operational use) – Capable of meeting some, but not all requirements Unable to meet requirements

  5. NOAA POES StatusNOAA-18 • Day 130, 9 May 2008, MHS went into spin state 05:43:32Z, recovered 07:06:00Z • 24 March 08, MHS Channel 3 & 4 DC Offset adjusted after a spontaneous shift in radiometric levels caused data to be unusable • This event has previously occurred – 13 Aug 07 & 26 Sep 07 • 9 May 08 – MHS entered spin state unexpectedly. Crews recovered instrument to nominal operations • 13 May 08 HIRS limit violations on Channel 1; jitter still observed after initial ‘flare up’, this has been seen on other s/c • 22 May 08, SBUV Chopper Motor Failure • Performance degrades for 4 hours then reaches stall state • Science Data non-usable without proper chopper function • Motor turned off on 23 May 08 (144), 24 hours after initial event • No success yet from recovery attempts, indications of small movement

  6. NOAA POES Status (Cont.) NOAA-17 • AMSU A1 Channel 4 out of spec performance confirmed Mar 08 NOAA-16 • SARR 121 AGC has degraded further • SARSAT stated the 121 and 243 have been permanently lost • Recommendation from SARSAT was to turn off the 121 & • 243 receivers in July 2008

  7. Polar Satellite Products and Services Status - Scheduling, performance or - Not operational G R - Operational Y Or unable to process capabilities limitation

  8. ESPC Operational Data Status • IJPS pipeline processing - 8 minute granules available for user • MetOp GDS data • N18 Blind Orbit GAC from SV • Orbital data available 20 minutes earlier with granule processing • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) System • Back up system being pursued in case of ESPC complete failure • Users being contacted on data distribution from backup site; initial stages completed at Wallops CDA

  9. ESPC Operational Data Status • NOAA & EUMETSAT are exchanging metrics on data quality • Metrics currently don’t line up since NOAA counts frames and EUMETSAT tracks secs of data • No late data transfers • % reported by EUMETSAT • CW • Internal statistics used to help reveal data problems and correct data problems • Investigating data gaps and fragmented files in the level 1B data • Example of POES FRAC/GAC AVHRR 1b Data Coverage Summary on next slide

  10. POES FRAC/GAC AVHRR 1b Data Coverage Summary Missing Data Statistics for CW 20 (12-18 May 2008) SV = Svalbard, WI = Wallops, GC = Fairbanks Details Concerning Anomalous Orbits

  11. METOP-A Products and Services Status

  12. GOME Products

  13. GOME Products Exhibits Cross-Track Polarization

  14. MetOp-A CLW Product

  15. MetOp-A RR Product

  16. NOAA-18/19 BeaconSelection Proposal

  17. NOAA-N’ • NOAA-N Prime ops support • Same as NOAA-N • no calibration changes • no instrument changes • Preparing calibration parameters for testing and to place in the users guide • Will use “NP” in the level 1B 44 character dataset name and NOAA-P/19 as the satellite name

  18. Operational Activations Declaration of ASCAT Level 2 Processing System Operational • On June 18, 2008, SPSRB gave an approval for making ASCAT level 2 data processing system operational. • This processing system will provide oceanic surface wind vectors in both 50KM and 25KM horizontal resolutions Declaration of IASI Level 2 Processing System Operational • On June 18, 2008, SPSRB gave an approval for making IASI level 2 data processing system operational. • This processing system will provide atmospheric temperature, moisture, and ozone profiles in addition to the trace gases carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2) profiles.

  19. Operational Activations MIRS Updates: • The global MIRS TPW composite from N-18 and MetOp-A in McIDAS formats made available to users since April 2008 • Products also available to NWS AWIPS MSPPS Updates: • MetOp-A Area of Interests (AOI) products were made available to users in McIDAS format since May 2008.
