  3. Equipment and Teams • Equipment: • Football • Flags (red vs. yellow) • Teams • At least 7 on each team • At least 1 girl on each team (optional) • A GIRL HAS TO PASS OR CATCH THE BALL WITH IN THE 4 DOWNS. THE ONLY TIME A GIRL DOES NOT HAVE TO TOUCH THE BALL IS ON A RETURN. • HIKING DOES NOT COUNT AS A TOUCH!!!

  4. Game Rules- Throw Off • The game begins with a throw off. • THERE ARE NO KICKOFFS!!! • The throw off is made from the extra point cone located just in front of the goal line. • If the ball lands on the ground from a throw off, it may be played by the receiving team. • If the ball was attempted to be caught, but hits the ground it is ruled down at the spot. • If the ball travels out of bounds on a throw off, the receiving team can elect to take it where the ball went out. OR have the throwing team throw the ball again.

  5. Game Rules- Game Play • TEAMS HAVE 4 DOWNS TO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN. (NO FIRST DOWNS). A DOWN STARTS WITH A SELF HIKEBY THE QUARTERBACK (QB). • ANYONE MAY THROW A PASS, ANYONE MAY CATCH A PASS, AND PASSES CAN BE THROWN IN ANY DIRECTION EVERY PLAY. • NO HAND-OFFS • PITCHES, TOSSES, AND LATERALS ARE LEGAL PLAYS. • YOU MAY THROW ANY NUMBER OF PASSES DURING A PLAY UNTIL A PASS IS RULED INCOMPLETE (Once a pass hits the ground) • AN INCOMPLETE PASS IS BROUGHT BACK TO WHERE IT WAS LAST THROWN • A FUMBLED OR DROPPED BALL IS RULED A DEAD BALL…WE DO NOT PLAY FUMBLES!!!

  6. Game Rules- Game Play • A play is ruled “dead” if (player w/ ball): • A players flag is pulled • If a player runs out of bounds • If a player drops a pass/fumbles while running • If a player falls on the ground. • A throw off may be used on the fourth down. It must be declared and there can be no fakes.

  7. Defense and Interceptions • On defense players should play man to man (pick a person and guard them). • If you plan to rush the QB, defense must count to 5 Mississippi before doing so. • If the defense rushes, the QB can then run. If they don’t rush, the QB can not run. • An intercepted play can be ran back.  It is not considered a down at the spot of interception. • An intercepted extra point attempt may not be run back.

  8. What is Off-Sides? • Line of scrimmage- this is where the football is placed to be hiked. All offensive players must be behind this line before this ball is hiked. • IF YOU ARE NOT BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE BEFORE THE HIKE, YOU ARE OFF-SIDES. • Off-sides results in a 5 yard penalty. • The blue line in the picture below is an example. Defense Offense Line of Scrimmage

  9. A Touchdown • A touchdown is worth 6 points • Once a team has scored a touchdown, they have the choice of going for an extra point. • There are 2 cones that mark the extra point line of scrimmage • After the play is completely over, the defensive team will have to quickly hustle down field for the throw off. • Throw off team count to 5 and then throw. • If the receiving team is not ready, you do not have to wait on them

  10. Fair Play- Important • No Flag guarding- you can not use your hands to knock away others hands • No stiff arming • Do not tie your flag • If you fall on the ground, you are automatically down and the play is over • If your flag falls off when you are carrying the ball, you are down in that spot. • If you catch a ball and you don’t have a flag on, it is an incomplete pass and the ball goes back to the original line of scrimmage
