It is one of the strategies that Human resource management applies in the organization's different processes, such as recruitment, onboarding, training programs, job evaluation, succession planning, individual development plans and performance appraisals. The aim of conducting the competency mapping assessment within the organization is to evaluate an employee's competencies, strengths, and weaknesses through SWOT analysis to overcome the performance barriers through feedback and assessment reviews. What is competency? A competency can be termed a set of qualities or characteristics that enable an employee to successfully perform a given task in the organization. It is important to note that competencies and skills are similar yet very different. Social intelligence, interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate and inspire, and trustworthiness are leadership competencies that an organization looks for in an employee. Benefits of Competency Mapping  Learning and Professional Development One of the advantages of using competency mapping is that employees will be able to identify what competencies they are good at and what competencies they need to work on to improve their work productivity. Organizations can help employees reduce the skill gap by organizing learning and training development programs that will nurture the employees’ capabilities, reduce the performance gap and increase the employee retention rate among the workforce in the organization.  Employee Engagement Using competency mapping in the organization paves the way for getting a well-defined long-term growth plan. Both organizations and employees must have a clear picture of their organization's aim, mission, vision, and objectives. And what steps will be taken in the future for organizational growth and employee development. This way, the employees will be more engaged in their associated job, which will result in employee satisfaction and work productivity.  Assembling Competent Teams By understanding an employee’s strengths and weaknesses, an organization can assemble compatible employees in the right team by analyzing their competencies to maximize work productivity and achieve high-end results. Employees working with the right teams

  3. are more satisfied with their jobs and are more efficient in their work.  Work Efficiency It is imperative for an organization to understand the associated job role deeply and clearly define what core competencies are required to perform the job successfully.
